adopting from China

by mameihua, Aug 26, 2004 12:00AM
I have been given the opportunity to adopt a 2 1/2 year old little girl who had hepatitis b when she enterred the orphanage. I have her test results and cannot get to see a specialist before they need an answer. She is HbsAg-Pos, Hbsab-neg, Hbeag- neg, Hbeab-Pos, and Hbcab-pos. I have become totally confused trying to figure this out on my own. I would appreciate any answers you can give me. Does she need treatment? What is the long term outlook? They state that at the present time she is healthy. Her height & weight are good and her liver is not palpable.

Thank You

You may want to check the following website
http://www.comeunity.com/adoption/health/hepatitis/smith.html
There is no MD at this forum to give medical advice. I found this site for another person that was also adopting from China.
Best to you

Can anyone on PEG tell me what a full dose of PEG- Intron is? Or is it by weight?

My husband is on Peg and he weighs about 250 and he (I) pull 7 out of the water vial and add it to the powder, stir gently, draw out to the 5 and give the shot.

Subject: [HepatitisC] Forms for Hep C TX Lawsuit

Hepatitis C Movement for Awareness
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi All,
I am working with Mr. Gazzola and support the effort of
accountability for pharmaceutical's withholding important
treatment information from patients. I know too many suffering
sever side effects from the Hepatitis c treatment. Plenty of
knowledge existed about these side effects, but, we were not
warned by physicians or by the product insert provided with the
medicine.
At one point, two different inserts were given out at the same
time. The newer one warned of more autoimmune
consequences while the other did not. Instead of pulling the
product insert to warn all patients of the newly reveled side
effects, Schering Plough chose to save the money. Recently,
charges were laid against Schering for unscrupulous business
practices, paying a commission to physicians for patients
referred.
For those the medicine has helped, I am very grateful. But these
patients are few and far between. Now, many must deal with a
much lower standard in the quality of life than before the
medicines. Some, despite clearing the virus, are much worse off
than living with the virus. The push to take the treatment has
taken a serious toll on our lives.
I personally feel if we don't hold the pharmaceuticals
accountable, they will continue to choose money over lives.
Schering has cost our community dearly and our sacrifice
surpasses any dollar value obtained in this action.
this post had been circulating in the forum before, and it was not well received, especially since there were some recruiters for the lawyers spamming many of us.
All of the possible side effects and possible life threatening, or permanent affects, were listed in the info packet that came w/ my meds every month. I was also warned by all Dr.s about same. Tort lawyers like those touting this class action suit are the sole reason our health insurance is so high in this country. They each make millions and the actual litigants make a couple thousand. Believe me, I researched this after my sister was totally screwed by the phen-fen lawyers. If you need proof, read a book called "The King of Torts" by John Grisham. It is fiction, but based on real cases, and since he is a lawyer, he should know.   Joni
While it is very true and sickening that Tort lawyers make a fortune on malpractice suites, I don't think it is the "real" reason that insurance is so high priced.
I can think of a couple of more reasons:
1) Greedy insurance corporations, they are allowed to price gouge and discriminate freely.
2) Doctors who really do kill/maim people. Rarely are they charged with murder so how else can they be held accountable?
There are a couple of solutions that come to mind:
1) Limit the amount of money an attorney can keep of a malpractice settlement.
2) Hold the doctors personally accountable for their mistakes. Make them pay the higher premiums.
Now the ramble: These insurance companies discriminate daily and get away with it. They can and will refuse life and or health insurance to anyone with HepC and it is perfectly legal. They ask all kinds of personal questions to make that determination. Many insurance companies check your blood before deciding whether or not to insure.
Maybe the insurance companies should have higher standards when insuring doctors and save everyone from the bad ones.
I guess my real questions is……… Why is everyone running like mad to make laws to protect doctors from their own mistakes?  What about the poor guy that was killed or the family left behind?
I have read the book "The King of Torts" (I just love John Grisham) and I have NEVER sued anybody in my whole life, and not because I couldn’t.
I am gonna quit rambling now. I think HIS peg/reba are making ME crazy.  I KNOW he is.
