I am a little confused...if I am reading correctly you are 50 year old man...with a sperm issue...and you and your partner have been going through infertility treatments.  In addition you know you have had hepatitis b in the past. (this is what I am not sure about - is it you or your wife that had hepatitis b? - because if it was you and you are cleared and she is taking the drugs mentioned - I think you should be ok)

All of the drugs you are mentioning are actually various drugs that a woman takes during infertility treatments (with the exception of Nolvadex...which is an anti-estrogen to combat breast cancer...I would make sure my fertility specialist is aware that your wife is taken this - this one might be interfering with fertility???)

Suggest you talk with your doctor about the risks of birth defects etc. if either of your are currently going through treatment.

If you have any doubts I would bring them up to your fertility specialist to be sure - and if you have a hepatologist - might want to talk to him too.

sorry that you did not understand my question.i explain to you that iam a man and i were married 15years ago and got 2 childrens and i married after 15 years with other wife and i am 50years but i discovered no spermatogenesis and i took drugs like: pregnyl 5000,hmg 75iuamp,clomide 50mg tablet, nolvadex to treat my infertility in high doses and for a long term but without any positive results.i have hepatitis b and my wife is not.
my question is: are these drugs influence the function of my liver and worsen my disease when taken for a long term with high doses, and do u advice me to continu the treatment with such drugs untill i obtain positive results and do these drugs cause my disease to become worst.
thankx for your help

Several of the drugs you mention, nolvadex for example, can cause liver damage.  Do you currently have hepatitis? or did you recover from it?

Sorry - I was unaware that clomid or the other drugs you mentioned could be used for male infertility as well (learning every day!)

So - I did some research :: Clomiphene can impair liver function when used continuously or for long periods of time. And, as Galen said, so can some of the other medications.

Is your doctor aware that you had Hep B?  Are you or he aware of what the current condition of your liver is?  If not, I would recommend informing him and asking him to order you up some blood work just to make sure.

If you were responding to the fertility drugs and knew that the current condition of your liver was ok, I might say try for a little while longer if you really want children that bad........but since you know you are not responding, have been on the drugs for an extended period of time already and possibly don't know what the condition of your liver is - I wouldn't take the chance.  But - talk to your doctor first, that is the best bet.

I am actually quite suprised that you were given clearance to continue with IVF treatments given that you are currently infected with the hepb virus and on medication.

What I would do is present these questions to your doctor/doctors - only they will be able to direct you, as they have all of the variables about your situation.

From what I have read it is normal for your enzymes levels to rise once you stop taking epivir-HBV and return to normal levels once treatment is started again.  There are many studies on the effects this drug will have on a pregnant woman or a woman trying to conceive, but no solid statistics from the male perspective (i.e. Does taking this drug lower my chances of producing viable sperm?  Will taking this drug during the IVF treatments effect the child?).

Getting to your last question.  The fertility drugs you mentioned all have a negative effect on the liver over long periods of time - and you have already indicated that you have been on them for awhile.  I don't know what combining epivir and fertility drugs will do to you...this is something your doctor will have to examine with you.

I don't advise you to take any fertility drugs unless your fertility doctor is aware of your hepc condition and what drugs you are taking to combat the virus.   He can go through your options with you.  I would also make sure that your hepatitis doctor knows that you are / or will be taking IVF drugs.  I am not a doctor.

I have hepatitis B... my wife and I have opted for IVF and her Doctor placed us on griseofulvin medication but after taking all the medication I now have very serious liver problems.
Do you think this liver problem will heal soon? and secondly if my wife should have Hepatitis too can she still do IVF?

I don't know anything about fertility treatment in HepB individuals.  But I see that you are taking epivir.  Make sure you talk to your doctor about switching antivirals before resistance occurs.  Still some doctors let pts take epivir until resistant occurs and then make the switch.  That is a bad bad plan because once you have resistance to epivir, you are more likely to develop resistance to other HepB antivirals, especially Baraclude.

Please advise us with this problem: my husband has been taking Baraclude for almost 2 years. Blood test shows Hbsag is - and Hbsab is +. Doctor didn't let us know  when to stop? Our biggest concern right now is we are trying to have baby but his GI doctor wasn't able to tell if he has to stop taking Baraclude while we are trying or  if it's unneccessary to stop? Thanks for your input please. WE asked our OBGYN and other Gi but they gave us different ideas: some said it's ok not to stop taking Baraclude and some said stop taking it at least  3-6 months before trying for baby
