hepatits b antigen

hepatits b antigen

I was diagnosed with hepatitis b some time ago and last week I got my last blood test results and I got the following information:
Hepatitis-be ab reactive
Hepatitis be Antigen non reactive

AST 52
Alt 137

What does it mean? Is this a indication of a a cronic (chronic) hepititis (hepatitis) b?

Tks

You - e-antigen and + e-antibody simply mean that your immune system developed antibody to one part of the HepB virus.  You need other lab markers to find out what's happening.  Like your HepB surface antigen / antibody status, core antibody, and viral DNA level.

You high ALT / AST means that there is active liver damage.  The virus damaged your liver cells and its enzymes leaks out into your blood, hence the ALT / AST goes up.

The chance of clearing the virus depends alot on your age of infection.  If you were infected as an baby, then you are likely be classified as having e-antigen -chronic hepB.  But if you are infected as an adult you have like a 90% chance of clearing the virus.  And if you are infection lasts more than 6 months, your are considered chronic.

So as the poster before me, I think you should follow up with your doctor to find out your status.
