yes,i am also from china, and have the same experience as u...the only difference is i had been rejected by over 10 companies, not because of my qualifications, but the hepatitis B virus of me........i failed to find a job until today, and i also feel desperate about my future...
How did they find out? Honestly I would not disclose any of this at an interview in any way. Of course companies are NUTSO these days and can give drug tests so why not disease tests?
I am going through some sort of discrimination at my job currently and it does feel BAD. However...I know they are just a bunch of ignorant foolish jerks and since I am so much smarter than they are I just let it go! ;-)
Just teasing but hopefully you will see that ignorance will always be in the world. HOpefully SOON people will be educated about our diseases and that we are not LEPERS but HEPPERS.
thanks Jim .. i will keep on trying!! i want to apply the bank clerk, i knew, my hbv-dna is negative, and that means i would not infect anybody, however the HR manager never knew this!!if i lie to him and to cheat in the body eeamination (in china, before you got a job, you have to accept a body examination),maybe i can get this job,but i will live like a cheater forever. i hate that kind of life!anyway ,i have to face the future and overcome the discrimination .
i am hep b dna positive. I have never been rejected from a job. I have never disclosed this. What kind of job are you appling for?
Sorry about what you're going through.
A similar question was asked to Dr. Dieterich at the following link: http://www.thebody.com/Forums/AIDS/Hepatitis/
Maybe you can do a search or just ask your question to the doctor. They are more knowledgeable about Hepatitis B then we are here. This is primarily a Hepatitis C site. Anyway, the gist of Dieterich's reply, if I remember correctly, was to go get a lawyer because they just can't do that.
Speaking of lawywer's, we do have at least one here, named "Rifleman". Maybe he can throw some legal mumbo jumbo into the mix.
Meanwhile, don't feel desperate. Many of us have gone through isolated unwarranted incidents of discrimination and have come out fine on the other end.
I assume you've also seen a liver specialist (hepatologist) and are under his/her care. That's important because the field of hepatitis is literally changing daily with new cures and treatment. Unfortunatly, most general practitioners and even many gastroenterologists are not up on the literature. That's why seeing a hepatologist might make sense in your case.
Thanks for dropping by and hopefully you will get some more direction here. When things like this happen it always seems like there's no way out but there always is. I have a good feeling that things will work out for you just fine.
