HEPATITIS B COMMUNITY
letter from the bloodbank

letter from the bloodbank

I donated blood and got a letter from the bloodbank saying that I tested positive for Hep B core antibody and negative for Hep B surface antigen.

Last year I donated blood and I don't think I got this letter. Does this mean that I got infected in this past year and that I cleared the infection?

Many years ago I started the vaccination twice but never got to do the third shot, both times.

If I have unprotected sex, can I transmit Hep B virus?

you cleared infection because vaccine protects only from cronic (chronic) development, so most have a mild hepatitis

blood can remain infectious even if you clear virus and there is no test to be sure so your blood will not be accepted anymore

does this mean that i can pass it on?

yes by blood, hbeag negative and hbsab pos mean immune control of infection (hbsab blocks entrance to liver cells) but cccdna remains in the infected cells gor decades and also very little quantity of virions in the blood, after decades that cccdna can be cleared or not, there is no test to check

so yes you might pass it on by blood but i guess it must be a lot of blood not just a small
wound

keep in mind for the future that immune suppressive therapies like chemioterapy, therapies for reumathoid illnesses or cortison can reactivate hbv and outcome is deadly in this case so before these type of therapies antivirals must be taken and you have to say to doctor that you had hbv

mistake:
hbsag negative and hbsab pos mean immune control of infection

The bloodbank's: antiHBc positive
The hospital's: HBSAG NEGATIVE
                      HCV AB NEGATIVE . . .
                     HBSAB POSITIVE . . .
HEP B C AB EIA NEGATIVE

What does this mean, because aren't the anti-HBc tests contradicting each other?

I have started the vaccination twice and never made it to the third dose. This was more than 10 years ago.

Was I infected or wasn't I? Last year i donated blood and I did not get that letter telling me I cant give blood anymore.
Can I ever get it again?
Can I pass it on?

you re immune and only contagious by blood so you cannot donate blood anymore, you cannot get it anymore

only if you get infected by rare hbsag escape mutants due to all drugs not used anymore you might have a mild hepatitis, actually 0,000000 possibility to meet and get infected by a person with these mutants

but this means that someone gave it to me, I had hepatitis, never knew about it and then it went away?
