need Lamivudine or other?

Hi,
My husband has been a Hepatitis B carrior for at least 6 months. He got the positive Hepatitis Be AG. He takes the liver functional and Ultrasound test every 6 months, The result has always been fine.
His physician said he don't need any drug right now, But I am worried. My question is :
(1)What other test he should do to make sure his liver is fine?
(2)Is there any drug for hime in his case? Is Lamivudine doing something good for him?
