negative HBsAg, but positive for hepatitis B???

by stelutu, Feb 19, 2008 02:06PM
"Patients who clear the virus lose HBsAg and develop anti-HBsAb. Anti-HBsAb is a long-lasting antibody and is associated with immunity. The presence of anti-HBsAb and anti-HBcAb (IgG) indicates recovery and immunity in a previously infected individual, whereas a successful vaccination response produces antibody only to HBsAg."

Is it true that only way to show HBsAg negative is to be previously infected and developed anti-bodies by self immunity???? Does that mean I do not need treatment?

If you fully recover from chronic hep b, you will be immune to the virus hence, no need for treatment. You can however, not donate blood, plasma or any body organ.

Below are some test results from  www.herpes-coldsore.com
Check the hep b section.

Antigens

HBsAg - presence of the virus

HBcAg - not detected in blood

HBeAg - correlates with the viral replication and infectivity

Antibodies

Anti-HBs- antibodies to the surface (antibody to HbsAg)

Positive means you are immune to Hepatitis B (from either having had the disease or from having been given the vaccine)

Anti-HBc

Antibodies to the core can be either IgM (acute) or IgG (chronic)

Anti-HBe

Antibodies to 'e' indicating low infection rate and probable recovery

Other Markers

HBV DNA

Indicates virus presence and activity

DNA polymerase

Determines the presence of HBV DNA

HBsAg in liver cells (Orcein stain, Shakata cells)

HBsAg inside hepatocytes

Standard Blood Tests

HBsAG (Hepatitis B surface antigen)

Positive means current infection.

Anti-HBc (antibody to Hepatitis B core antigen)

Positive means current infection.

Thank you very much. I posed the Q because my bf has the virus and I was so sure I had it too. But in some strange manner, to a complete set of tests the other week i got the result :
HCV=absent;
HBsAg=negative;
So by being negative they did not search for antibodies or core antigen. My thought was (for having all previous symptoms) that I had the virus and developed antibodies.
Than I read this I posted up : in 1-2 months the surface antigen dissapears: so if it did, I am safe now???

Interpretating of HBV results is something i am still struggling to really understand.

Its rather unfortunate there are no doctors here on the forum but then, the some guys around who are knowledgable in this field to assist you.

StevenNY and zellyf will be more than happy to assist you.

I know that...I am really waiting for them.....
Forums in my country state that with these results I mentionated...I could have HBV, HCV and HIV in the same time. I am really scared. They told me I could have HIV with a 7months negative , just because it's on antibodies and it's more likely that i did not produce them.
As for HBV and HCV they all say viral load it's possible to miss, and that i have to get more markers to prove me negative......I'm doomed....Thanks a lot man :(
