'passive' carrier?

'passive' carrier?

Dear Doctor,

I have posted here on two occasions previously regarding the health of my wife who has Hepatitis B. We are from Australia and she originally comes from SE Asia. It seems like she got infected from her mother as her brother also has it. In addition she did not get rid of it as most people who got infected during adulthood otherwise would.

Anyway, previously I posted her function tests which did not show any abnormalities.
This time the liver specialist carried out more tests and results are stated below:

HBsAg: positive (of course)
HBeAg: negative
HBeAb (antibody): positive
HBV-DNA: negative
Alkaline Phosphatase U/L: 39
gamma-Gkutamyl Transferase U/L: 16
Alanine Transferase U/L: 35
Bilirubin umol/L: 5
Albumin g/L: 40
alphafetoprotein ug/L: 3.0

Ultrasound of liver: normal

In addition, he also did a test for Hep. A which showed:

Hepatits A total Ig: Detected
so I guess she won't need a Hep. A injection, right?

The specialist said that my wife does not need to see him anymore, but should do liver function tests at usual doctor every year and only see the specialist if the liver tests are not ok.

Do you agree with that?

He also said that it is ok to drink occasional alcohol. Is it really ok?

Are all foods ok?

Being a "healthy" carrier, is my wife's liver being damaged or the damage only happens in "active" patients with HBeAg positive?

What are the chances that my wife's virus will convert into the active HBeAg, HBV-DNA +ve stage?

Thank you very much in advance.
You've been a real help to us for many months.

Regards,

Alex
