slightly high alt?

by worry1, Jun 02, 2005 12:00AM
Well i went to the Doctor had a sightly hi alt and i was reading on the net and got really worried about hepatitis being the problem? But in the other hand i have been taking hydrocodone acetamuephen 750mg for four months now and some times pretty heavy do to pain in knees. And my life style puts me at a very low risk for the types of hepatitis. And about three months ago my wife was tested for all three hepatitis and they where neg..My ? is would the Hydrocodone make my alt rise?

you should get tested for all the hepatitis, mostly B & C, since A does not become chronic.  The fact that your wife tested negative, does not mean you are also.   Hep B is not only transmitted by intercourse and hep c rarely is.
any lifestyle can put you at risk, some more than others. Improperly sterelized equipment, piercing, tattoos, manicures/pedicures, etc.
test to be safe.

Did you get the news yet on your PCR results?  I'm praying that you're undetectable.  Please let us know when you get a chance.

ALT can be elevated due to many, many factors. Diet, excercise, medications, weight lose, fatty liver, and hepatitis.
Only way to be positive is to test for the antibodies.
What are your numbers, and how does tha rest of liver functions look?

all my other test where fine it was just my alt/56pt=69 what ever that means not to smart on this and they say normal is 10-35 all my Doctor wants to do is re test me in four weeks and stop taking the hydrocodone and if its still hi then test me for hep b-c

The approach you Dr is taking sounds good..The high dose of Vicodin can easily cause liver enzymes to rise.

I would insist on a Hep- B-C test even if your ALT comes down...Better safe then sorry.

              Good Luck.
