Sorry to bust into this thread but thought I would let everyone know I survived my first shot...barely, well, maybe I'm exagerating, it could have been worse, I'm sure. I woke up at 1a.m. Sat. with the worst case of shakes and body aches you can imagine. I was thinking, "hell, is THIS what drug withdrawl (withdrawal) feels like?" I mean, I was freezing, and I'm sure I coulda chipped a tooth the way by teeth were chattering. Now that being said, I took a couple of tylenol, went back to sleep and then woke up in a major sweat. Whew, what a trip! Felt crappy all day Sat. but by Sunday and again today I am perfectly fine. This happen to you guys? Is this what I can expect for the next 6 months worth of Saturdays? Now more TGIF's for me!!!!!!!!!

Just a little info about this forum.  There are no medical doctors here, though some play one once in a while.  Such a technical question can best be answered by  the PDR, if you have one or know someone, that's the best resource.  There is  a PDR.com but i don't know if is free.

To make you feel better...My first was the worst ever, just like you said as I shook like the show the "exorcist" haha and then 2 days later felt much better but honestly each day is a new day..Enjoy your good ones and catch up and bad ones...Take care of yourself.  There is no routine to this medicine as it seems to be hit and miss with me and everyone else I have listened to.  Good Luck!

My first week was exactly the same.  I was sick the second wk but I think that was more due to the migraine I had gotten rather than anythingelse.  Since then, I've had pretty mild wks; a few aches here and there as well as headaches from time to time; but altogether not too bad.  Just did 24/48 this past Friday.
Good luck with your next shot and wishing you a side-free wkend.

thanks all for the comments on taking your first injection. I am set to take mine on April 16th, and I have been more then wondering. I do appreciate this site. I have been walking and jogging 4 miles a day, eating well, getting my support group, i.e. family and friends lined up. Told my 17 year old son all about it yesterday, and I pray. I just had my lab work done and all my numbers are pretty good, virus load about 400,000. Does that matter? Does viral count mean anything other if it goes down or not? Anway. I am as ready as I can get, I think. Type 1a, so 48 weeks. Anyway, all your discriptions of everything mean so much to me in terms of what might happen, and most of all how you all are handling it! Yours B

We are all different.........i will do #14 tonight....each week it seems to be better......I had the night sweats and major fatigue......but these past couple of weeks I've had more energy.  Today I saw my regular doctor and he said i looked better than most he's seem on these drugs..........he said i looked great.......he was surprised.......so we are all different.........hang in there..........be aware of your body and especially how you feel..........Log everything in your little book that you got with your kit.......its good to keep yourself in touch with each week....Wish I could tell you more....One day at a time.........Deb

Wow, first shot is that much to look forward to huh?? I am new here, but seem to be already drawn here for support.. It is much more meaningful to here from people first hand that are going through the horror.Boy, reality sucks!!!
I want to thank everyone who welcomed me yesterday and helped me get through one of my first days of reality. It was very hard, and I greatly appreciate it, as it is easy to say you'll be alright, but incredibly hard to believe it.
Does anyone know if the riba can be transmitted through bodily fluids, like sweat or saliva?? My wife and I are going to try and have a baby before my first shot, and I want to be sure of when is safe enough time frame..I think that knowing she is pregnant, and that my son(yes it will be a boy), is depending on me to pull through, will be inspiration enough to make it through tx.
Again, THANK YOU!!!!

Glad to hear you are doing better and was wondering what your bloodwork is showing?  Is it improved also?

You never know how it's going to be. I was going crazy anticipating the worse from my first shot. I didn't have ANY sx for the first few months. I even felt like I had extra energy. I have had them off and on since but that really suprised me. Your doing all the right stuff. I still work out, not much but it does help. I wish you the best. LL

Thanks for your reply.  My doctor wasn't in at my last visit and i had to see a resident doctor.  She wasn't able to pull my 12wk antibody test out of the computer. Really made me angry. She thought maybe it was lost or it hadn't come in yet.  I knew better.  I got another lab slip to redo the 12 wk test, just in case! I won't get my results until next GI visit next month.  I'm playing the waiting game.  They don't call, you just have to wait!  It's been depressing, but, no news is good news as far as i am concerned.  AND, i have been feeling much better these past couple of weeks.  I seem to have some mood swings( happy and uplifted one minute and the next kind of on a bummer, not really depressed......Maybe because its lonely on TX. I keep to myself and i work each day. Its just me and the kitty, thank God for her!  Thanks again for your concern, i appreciate it very much.

I finished tx 6/7 weeks ago.
My hair was very fine to start with and I've lost about half of what I had.
It also went lighter during tx and dead straight.
It has started growing again now and there is alot of short growth which is now about 1-2 inches long. This hair tends to stick straight up through the longer hair.
I've had it cut to a jaw length bob with a fringe ( bangs, I think you call it in the USA ).
I really don't want to get it cut short as my hair line has now moved and my forehead stretches half way back on my head!
What do you suggest?
Is there a product that I can use to stop the sticking up short bits without making the rest of it even more lank?
Have you heard of hair changing colour during tx?
Or perhaps its just old age! ha, ha.
Your oninions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm in the UK so you are probably asleep right now, I'll check in tomorrow.
Thanks and best wishes,
Joanna.

Showboat...hi stranger....I haven't been comming around here much lately....so I was really happy I checked in today and saw your post.I hope things are well for you. I have been sleeping alot lately and a little depressed.I started wondering about extending tx., cause of course I am scared about how this is all going to turn out and I want to give it ALL I've got. Went to the doc yesterday and he said to stop at 48. He thinks everything will be ok. Hey tonight is the big 43 for you...oh yea...5 weeks...5 weeks....oh yeaaaaaa. I will do a triple back flip with a round of for YOU......(only in my imagination of course...hahahaha)take care,,,,Praying for SVR, kim

Audrey...Happy Birthday beautiful!!!!!Hang in there...next year you will have MORE to celebrate.kim

Snook_man...definately make that baby BEFORE starting your riba/tx...it causes major birth defects.  You need to make sure it is completely out of your system before even contemplating the thought, if you wait until after tx.....So.. I would try now...before you start this poison. Good luck. kim

FERBERCAT, that is a really good idea to freeze sperm for later. who knows how long the tx and effects will be in us and our spermers, after we end tx. (not that i have a sperm problem since i'm a girl) and with all they are finding out new everyday, i'd hate to be stuck with wounded sperm or other nasties, down the road...

i'm in agreement with you on that one. plus the older we get the more chances of mishaps with pregnancy. freeze them healthy lively swimmers asap. esp. if your having a hard time gettin PG and get to a point where you must start tx...

Audrey:  Happy Birthday even if you didn't feel like a happy birthday!  We are all thinking of you.  Next year you will have so much more to celebrate.  Just keep going, hour by hour, day by day, and you will get there!

Snook:  Just a thought:  You might want to consider "storing" some sperm if you are intent on getting your wife pregnant right now.  If you have to be on a year of treatment and then they probably recommend you stay off at least 6 months before trying again, that's 18 months total.  If you froze some specimens now, you could always try in vitro with the specimens while you are on treatment.  Talk to your wife's gyn about it.  P.S.:  I'm going snook fishin' this weekend.  I'll be thinking about you if I can catch one of the elusive rascals!
