I think it's illegal for them to fire you. They have to try to accommodate you otherwise they have to pay for retraining so you can do something else.

I don't think it would be illegal to fire someone, if the company has provided some sort of justification... I know in China and US they do, they fire you if they found out you have HBV or HCV, the reason they would provid would be something on the line of "they are endangering other staffs in the company"

depends if your state is a right to work state...if it is they dont need any reason to fire you. if you think it is because of the hep you may have legal grounds somehow...legal aide or a lawyer would know. wishing you all the best.

Unless covered by some sort of contractual agreement most jobs are classified as "At will employment". They cannot terminate you for a reason's which violate Federal or State employment laws. However they can use just about any other reason they can come up with. ie. Job elimination.

Depending on your certainty of this happening you might consider filing for FMLA (assuming you havent already) which allows for up to 12 weeks (may or may not be paid) leave due to medical needs. It also requires employer to provide you with a your old job, or equivalent upon your return to work. If you do decide to follow this course of action do not consider any offer of "restricted duty" or similar. This negates the employer's obligation of providing you employment upon return to full duty.

Hi/ my real name is Stephen. I live in the province of Ontario in Canada. I was diagnosed with HepC in Apr.06. Between doing my blood work, ultrasounds, seeing specialist, etc. and getting set up with a nurse practioner to teach me how to do Pegatron injections that were to start last week, my employer decided to fire me and cut their losses and saying that cost of benefits were "just too high." I got a lawyer, for a wrongful dissmissal lawsuit, under the human rights act.I'm not sure where you live, but here in Canada it is illegal what they did, and they will hopefully be held accountable. Without my benefit plan it would cost me around $4000.per month, and I can't afford that without a benefit plan. If you've lost your job because you are sick, get a lawyer, and get him/her to go after your place of former employment. Good luck, and I'm sorry that this happened to you.

My employer knew at diagnosis time and when I began treatment, I laid the responsibility on them to keep an eye on me and help me if the Riba sx got too vocal (auto dealer service dept) I am very open and shared with my customers and friends. It led to finding that the social stigma that we may worry about is , at least in my experience not all one would think. 80-90 % of people I shared with either had close friends, relatives or had formerly been through HCV. When I announced to my supervisor two weeks after treatment and shared the joy of a clean blood test, I was dismissed that day for "non performance issues". I'm 55, have been a service advisor for 25 years, so I had to do some soul searching, let the shock settle down to reality and I have come to believe that losing that job was actually a blessing in disquise. It doesn't matter to people and it shouldn't matter to you how you got HCV. The only thing that's important is what you are going to do about it and if you are not a responder, how will it effect the rest of your life, not only physically but emotionally. For me, it took more to get to the point of being physically ready to take treatment (clean and sober since 8.18.05) then it did to mentally prepare to start the regimen. Wow...that felt good.I'll shut up now
