Hi Angel,  Long time no see.....I just got my 1 yr post tx and am still und. A year later and  I too suffer from short term memory loss.  Very frustrating.
I also had new eye exam and found out that I have cataracts. Left eye worse than the right.  Too early for surgery but progression related to interferon.  Cataracts and short term memory problems have greatly interrupted my passion for reading.

Doctor appt next week and will find out if this is normal.  Joint pain is subsiding and most things back to normal.

So sorry you have doctor with attitude.  My doctor appreciated the effort I made to understand the disease.  Made his job easier.  You keep educating yourself.

If possible, you need to find a more competent doctor who will listen to you and who will examine you and test you for possible treatment related problems as well as other problems that may not be treatment related. It could be a coincidence that the symptoms of something else showed up just as you were on or finishing treatment.

You have mosquitoes in Alaska. Do you have Lyme Disease in Alaska?

http://www.livingwithlymedisease.org/what-is-lyme-disease.html

I am not saying you have Lyme Disease, but your symptoms are on the list of symptoms for Lyme Disease. Of course, your symptoms are on the list for many disorders so that is why your doctor needs to do some investigating and quit writing you off. You could have a neurological problem or it could be autoimmune or it could be any number of things.

If possible, try to find a more competent doctor who will do some investigating or who will refer you to someone who will.

It is a shame that doctors are so uncaring and so incompetent that they will not listen to people and will not  try to diagnose the problem and institute appropriate treatment. In my opinion, it is negligence and we see a lot of it on this forum. So many people are languishing because their doctors will not do the appropriate exams and testing to find out what the problem is.

I sure hope you can find out what is going on.

In aug I was UND!!! I'm going back in Jan to make sure:) my Doc kinda *****. When I would tell him about my post tx sx he told me I shouldn't read so much info on the internet!!!! What!!!!  I live in alaska in a small town with no insurance. So I kinda get what I pay for I guess. I do know that my neck is sooo tight, all the way down my back. So I'm wondering if that could be part of the dizziness. I know my joints and muscles hurt all the time. I'm limping a lot cause of knee pain. My short term memory is non existent . My kids get frustrated with me cause I can't remember what they tell me. It's so frustrating.

Hi there congratulations for making it through the triple threat.

It is a hard treatment and takes a while to recover.  I had balance problems so bad during and after tx that my husband had to drive me.  I did not trust my driving for about 5 months after treating.

You have probably seen this but it does take up to 6 months for the meds to leave the body.  After that then the body has to recover from the tx.  I  have to say that I took over a year to recover.
I am not doing very well but it was an effort.
I continued to drink a lot of water. Started eating as healthy as I could with fruits vegetables, no red meat, only chicken or fish.  I try to avoid fried foods.  I avoid anything that I think will slow the liver down or irritate it I

Diana had a good point of treating each new symptom as a new problem and trying to treat it.  I know I tended to blame everything on the tx for a long while.  It is true, it can be but it can also be other things.

Our bodies really took a beating while on tx and it takes time to get back.
I will try to look for some more information.

I have also been looking into nutrition to see if I have an vitamin or minder deficiencies.

Take care

I am sorry you are having these problems.

Just wondering when your symptoms started.

I did have some balance issues on treatment. I lost my balance when I closed my eyes. I was quite sure it was the Interferon affecting my neuro-transmission and  I was pretty concerned about. It started about 32 weeks into treatment and lasted the rest of the 48 weeks of treatment and then maybe another 3-4 weeks after finishing treatment. Then that balance issue disappeared for good and I am fine now.

If you have a good internal medicine doctor, you could start with that doctor and ask for a thorough investigation of your symptoms. However, most doctors know so little about Interferon and its side effects that an internal med. doctor may not know what is going on with you and may not know what to investigate or what tests to order. If it was me, I would make an appointment with a Neurologist and be evaluated for neurological problems. (That was my plan if the balance issue did not resolve after a few months. Lucky for me, the balance issue did resolve by itself.)

BTW, did you attain SVR? If so, congratulations.

Best of luck.

I am really sorry to hear that you have this issues

Have you had any of those symptoms before or during tx?

I finished my tx only early Oct but I found that some new sx started in August and they are continuing

I also have some new sx which started in the last 2 weeks. Really serious hip pains which are restricting my movement.

Nobody will be able to give you a straight answer. I can only sugest that you are treating it as a new condition and have a doctor investigating it thouroughly.
