Was G4a, SVR12, now what can I expect?

Hi, I was G4a, am now SVR12 (as of May 1) after triple Tx of Pegasus/Copegus/Sovladi. My viral load was low to start,  192,000, low enzyme #s, I had no biopsy instead choosing to treat almost as soon as I found out I had it. I did have it for at least 34 years (only finding out late last year I had it when someone asked me if I had been tested, and since the guy I got this from died from hepatic cancer, I figured I may have been exposed.) Am feeling great now! What can I expect in the future now? I am requesting yearly blood work to keep an eye on my liver, and maybe a yearly ultrasound too. What are my chances of nothing coming from this? I am not overweight, don't drink. Does genotype affect what happens to your liver? Do some types proceed to cancer more than others? How much does the liver recover after Tx?  Any info would be appreciated.

Good luck on the SVR12! I hope for the best for you. My hematologist retired after my Tx, and I have not me the new guy yet. Since I have care through the Navy and their healthcare system is integrated, I expect I can request from my Primary (who is new too) yearly tests. I have not met with her since Tx, as everything is seems fine. I follow up with cardiology next month and ophthalmology in 3 more months again. I am tired of doctors and blood draws as I am sure you are. I just want to recover and since the miracle of SVR12 happened, why not the miracle of total health too? I had promised God if I was cured I would let them do colonoscopy, so that may be next for me, we will see. Thanks Lynn!—Sandi

Hi Sandi

We are in a brave new world being cured like never before. There just isn't a lot of data about progression to liver cancer after cure but I expect the likelihood of progressing primarily depends on your level of liver damage more than on genotype.

I am waiting to hear if I made 12 weeks SVR testing next Wednesday. I have cirrhosis dx in January 08. I have blood work including an AFP test and an abdominal ultrasound every six months and see my hepatologist annually. Even if I am cured I expect that will continue for the foreseeable future.

Are you seeing a hepatologist? What are your doctor's recommendations for continuing care going forward?

Huge congrats on SVR!
