The meds can stay in your system for 6 months after finishing treatment so you need to give it time to get back to normal. In addition, many say it took them at least a year or longer to get back to normal. I found that day by day and week by week things improved and I felt better. Most of the side effects of the drugs did go away after several months.
Your thyroid problems may or may not go away. You may have to take thyroid meds for the rest of your life. Also, your thyroid can affect the way you feel (fatigue and no energy) and so it is important that your doctor adjust the thyroid meds as needed to and keep your thyroid function in normal range.
Gradually increasing your exercise may help some too.
You should let your doctor know your symptoms so that he/she can monitor them. If they do not go away after several month following end of treatment, then you could start looking into possible other health issues that could be causing them. I waited several m onths before deciding I needed to see a Rheumatologist for some lingering problems and say her about 10.5 months after completing treatment. The issues I saw her for were not from treatment as I have had the symptoms/issues for many years (but had never been diagnosed).
So give it some time but keep your doctor informed of your symptoms.
Hopefully your symptoms will disappear as time goes on. Best of luck.
Hi taimoor, I am sorry to hear of your lingering issues.
Six or 7 months is the usual time most say that the meds need to clear the body. Fingers crossed this will be the case for you!
For some of us side effects linger for years and years so at this point I would say that you should give it some more time and keep doing what you are doing now and get up every day, no matter how exhausted you feel, and do an hours walk… Maybe go a little faster when you feel you can or try a bigger hill or take a nap and try another walk. Maybe take up basic yoga for breathing or start juicing.
I have been suffering from Post-Interferon Syndrome for years now with chronic fatigue being the main syndrome but there are many other issues going on. I am lucky in that most of my docs believe that the meds were the issue and we are working solving each issue but it is not fun and it takes a lot of energy just dealing with the medical community.
Keep positive and continue to advocate for yourself and if have someone else who can assist advocating more the merrier.
best of luck,
frank
