Hep C found decades after the fact!

Hi y'all, I'm new here qualify for many communities, and more recently, this one.

In the mid 80s I turned yellow and in the toilet , what was supposed to be brown was white. Can I say poo is here?
Anyway, that was brief. I didn't feel sick at all. Just tired and my doc diagnosed me with type A hep, no biggie. I knew how I got it. ( shared another needle only ONCE. let that be a lesson to anyone who thinks otherwise!)

Last year I went in for elective surgery and had to be tested to see if I would be a good candidate for a fairly hefty surgery The internist found Hep C. I freaked out initially until she told me the reason I showed up as an A type ( I sound like a car don't I?) was because the test for C wasn't available back then. I live in Toronto Canada. ( I'm half American and proud of it)

So far I feel safe in here as these q and A's are for people who are possibly like me, just wanting to know if what they have is 'normal' and I have a lot more of those to ask....
Thanks!
Frankensteinleshytski  ( I couldn't get any other name! )

hi and welcome catchy name! My hubby was the same he had it 40yr ago he turned yellow and like you said not much was known then about hepc he was told by doc not to drink or have sex for a year! and sent him on merry way. He only found out a year ago that he got hepc when he went for a blood test for something else. Anyway good luck if you decide to treat and keep us posted

Hello, welcome to the forum.  Like many people you must be in shock over this news.  I had HCV for 30 years before I was diagnosed.  In my case I never got sick so I really am not sure when or how I got it.
If you have any questions we could try to answer.  You can also click on the magnifying glass at the top of the page and search the site for anything you might need to know
I am now 15 months post tx, I am clear of the virus and feeling better than I have in a very long time.  Not sure what you wanted to know if anything.  Please ask and people will try to help.

I have to say it is a very good thing that you found out about the HCV before the surgery.  It could have really hurt you.  I had surgery without knowing I had it and was very sick for about 6 months after wards.  All that stress, anesthesia and trauma caused me to be very sick and lose my hair.
Best wishes
Dee
