Symptoms do they come and go

Hello , I have had the hep c virus for 20 years or more . I did not have any symptoms till recently . When my bloodwork came back I had 5 million on the viral load . It has never been high ever before . I don't appear to have any liver damage yet.
The Doctor iis also looking into a increased thyroid # which may be a reason for this too . I get a test for this today ... An "Uptake?" test.

The question is . Does the symptoms . Tired, flu feeling , Nausea etc. go away ? Maybe come and go? I have been down for 3 weeks now and don't feel as bad as I did . But still have something or another getting me down every day.

I am not able to start any treatment right now as I am on depression meds. I did not do anything 20 years ago as I had no sympyoms . And was hoping some new way would come out .

The specilast I saw says my liver may not be damaged for another 10-20 years.

Thank you for answering my question. Thing is I have been on leave from work since Jan 5th. The specialist did a colonoscpy and looked at my stomach at the same time . No problems there. Then at the followup visit is when he told me he couldn't help me any more with the depression. Says I need a Psycitrist<sp? to clear me for at least 6 months . He also said the liver looks to be OK but that was just from the bloodwork that he told me that.

That was last week and I am still having symptoms but what I am wondering is .
Do these symptoms let up so I can go back to work?

With this disease it can take 20-30 years before symptoms are felt. Seems like you are at that point where it has become active. The feeling tired, etc is your body trying to fight off the virus. Unfortunately once the virus becomes chronic the body cannot win this battle.
The only way to know if you have liver damage is a biopsy. This is important to know how to proceed.

People on depression meds can treat this disease, they just have to be monitored more carefully. The last thing you you need with depression is HCV. It will make you feel even worse all the time.

There are new meds coming out this year that will cut the treatment time to 6 months.

Best of luck
