12 week post treatment confusion

12 week post treatment confusion

Hi.  I completed 24 weeks treatment genotype 3a.  I was non detectable at 12 weeks and at the end of treatment.  Last week my 12 week post treatment lab, I believe it was HCV RNA , tested detectable.  Man, major bummer. Doc said he was having the lab run my blood sample for a viral load.  He called tonight, but I missed his call, he talked to my husband and told him the viral load is non-dectable, that it was good news and that we will re-run a viral load in 3 months.  We are now just confused.  I had a really hard time with this doctor, he's a general g.i, my husband I felt confused all through my treatment.   Can anyone shed some light on what it means to test positive for the virus, but negative for viral load?  I mean I kinda get it, but is this really good news?  My gut says no.  Hep c and treatment is quite a roller coster ride.

I believe the first test done showed antibodies against hcv. You will have those even if your cleared the virus, spontaneous or by treatment. The second test showed no virus present in your blood. You can relax and be happy!

Get a copy of your test(s) and post them here, including the type of viral load test and its sensitivity. There are several possibilities including a type of test that will only tell you if you're detectable or not without giving you a quantity. I was geno 3 and was told I was detectable at the end of tx but it was simply misread results.

I hoping that is was read wrong.   I looked at the lab slip and didn't see any about a qualitive test, just the quant TMA.  I'm hoping the lab ran the wrong test, the one that test for antibodies.  All my liver fuctions are normal and a viral load can't be detected.  I really had to keep on top of the office while on treatment because they did order the wrong test for my 12 week, had to wait longer to get the results to see if the meds were working. I always make sure they running the right test.  Maybe this time it was the lab.   So it wouldn't be the first time there was a mistake made.  I'm working on getting copies of the exact tests that were taken.  Thank you,  I'm feeling a little more hopeful.

OK check it --- SVR folks -- people who are cured --- per Dr. D... Will almost ALWAYS show positive for the HepC antibodies --- which means - you will pop positive for every single HEPC test.

Viral load means an active virus.

If you don't have an active (detectable) viral load --- then you are UNDETECTABLE.

If you are undetectable OFF of treatment --- you have either spontaneously cleared or are  after 1 year post treatment considered SVR (sustained viral response)

Which after more time - means --- you are cured.

Hugs,

Meki
