1yr. post tx results

by Gabbe, Jul 12, 2005 12:00AM
Well i just got a call from my doctor saying that I am still undetectable 1 year after finishing my 48 weeks of treatment!!!!  I am soooooooo happy!

I was a genotype 1b and was very dissapointed when they told me that genotype 1s had more difficulty to clear the virus, but everyday we are proving them wrong.  I've read a lot of stories about genotype 1' clearing the virus.  I know that when you are first starting the treatment is very hard but please hang in there.  I remember my first shot, I was crying like a child, I was expecting the worst but at the same time hoping for the best.  I am 32 years old and it was very frighten to think that I was going to live with this for the rest of my life.

I will be seeing my doctor in about a week, I have thousands of questions, maybe some of you know the answers to the most important one: can the virus still come back?

I just want to say thank you again.  When I felt the worst I always knew that I could come here and feel better.  My goal is to help others just the same way you guys helped me.  I feel that this disease has made me a better person, I still have a long way to go but at least I am on the path.

With gratitude,
Gabbe

This is wonderful news. At age 32 you've got so much life ahead and to be virus free is great! This is encouraging news for so many who get the mistaken view from us relapsers that we all treat many times. The fact is that those who treat once and stay clear of virus simply get on with their lives and do not post as often as those still fighting the hcv. Celebrate life hcv free for all of us and most especially for you-you did the work and deserve the joy. frank

truly wonderful news!
Dr. Cecil believes that after your 6 mo negative PCR, you can consider yourself CURED. I am with him.
The chances of relapse is extremely low(less than 2%) and mostly in persons that had severe damage to begin with.
ENJOY!

CONGRATULATIONS !!!!!!

I too was so scared when I found out I was a 1A. I am so happy to hear of another 1 clearing. Heck I am so happy to hear of any one clearing, regardless of what genotype. What a relief too now be able to say you are CURED. Yes, I agree with Cuteus. If you are clear at 6 months and especially at 1 year than I consider it a CURE. It took me two tries to get there, but I made it. Thankfully there are people like you that can do it in one try. It helps others see that this can be done. It also helps others when we stay involved here long after the fact that we are cured. Glad to see that you will be one of them.

Time to celebrate!!!!!!!

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!  Wonderful news - time to celebrate!  My GI told me that 1 year post is cured.

I'm a 40 year old 1A who finished my 48 weeks of Pegasys/Copeg last October.  Got my 8 mos post treatment labs back yesterday and still undetectable!  AST = 20 and ALT = 11.  After living with the disease for 20+ years, it feels weird for it to be gone.  For me, the 1 year labs are the big test.  For now it's time to get on with life without HepC.

Cheers,
Gail

Hi Frank, It feels like a new life.  I was diagnosed in 1989 and it was a drag carrying the knowledge and worry around for 14 years.  Feels like I have a new lease on life - a second chance as it were - to do what I want.  The treatment itself is a life changing experience.  I value my friends and family more then ever.  Working on what I want to REALLY do with this life - it's all on the table.  Where we want to live, what kind of jobs, etc, etc.

I've been lurking around here lately.  Seeing lot's of new "faces."  For all you newbies out there and those on treatment, keep your eyes on the prize.  The folks here are terrific and I couldn't have gotten through tx without you!
