hello,
whats the chance i relapse at the 12mth mark? Anyone with geno1A relapse after being negative on the 6th month??

I was first diagnosed back in 1993. I remember sharing a needle that I knew was infected (how dumb!) I was like in my early 20’s, broke and depressed I guess. I didn’t want to live beyond my 50’s back then, so I took my death wish (well, I assumed back then that hep C would eventually consume my life to nothingness). Anyways, 4 kids down the track, my outlook in life obviously changed for the better and on a positive note.
On the 27th May 2005, a doctor suggested I go and get treated, so I did. Cut a long story short,
Been infected for about 15years
Was/am, a geno 1a
stage 1
age 39, m
Treated for 48weeks
cleared at week 12, remained cleared
Got my 6mth post on the 4thJuly 2007, looks like I’ve put that dragon to sleep for all time.

None of us are doctors here. Starting out you have a 50-50 chance of clearing. If you are clear at 12 weeks, your chances go to 70%. If you stay clear at 6 months post tx, your chances of staying clear are greater. I have heard only a few people who relapsed after being 6 months post tx clear. I'd say you're good to go. What does your doctor say?

hey there,
I'm yet to see a doctor, but my nurse says i have a 98.9% chance that ive cleared for all time. That the odds of it coming back a VERY rare. I'm gonna wanna here it again from the Doctors though, to make it more official. But yes, i think i have read that someone relapsed but cannot find their story...Was just wondering how many stories of this relapes nature there are within this group....

I'm only on week 29 of 72, also 1A, but I've been reading everything I can find about relapse.

What I understand is that those who reach UND by week 12 are far less liklely to relapse than those who don't get UND 'til  between weeks 12 - 24 (like me -  that's the reason for extended TX).

Sounds like you're on the path to SVR to me!  :)

I don't recall what the percentages are from clinical studies, but it seems to me that the chance for relapse if 6 month PCR is UND and very low if it has been recorded at all.

Congrats!  I'd say you have less than 2% chance of relapse now, from what I recall.  Time to celebrate!  This is awesome news.  

As a matter of fact, I neglected to even do my 1 year post tx follow up yet.  Sometime over the next few months I will get around to it.  I FEEL like it is still gone, and honestly, don't want to know if it isn't. HAHA

It was my husband who relapsed at 1 year post treatment, he was 1B. I don't believe I've seen anyone else on this board relapse this late.

Someone once quoted the percentage of late relapse was 1% - 2%. Your stats look good, try not to worry, the odds are in your favor.
