I'd stay off the herb cocktails for a little while and see if it levels out - some of our friends in here have had really bad ALT reactions due to them.
It must be something for it to be that high - and I'd weed out all I could.
couldn't say, but for years when my HCV was active, both my ALT and AST were in the 60-80 range.
So u mean if the inflammation was due to hcv activity, ASt wud have gone parallel to ALT?
As noted above, ALT is usually the one that goes up from external influence. After tx my AST and ALT were right in the middle of the normal range - around 20 out of 0-40. About a year after tx I started taking hypertension meds and the ALT crept up to the low 40s, though I remained undetected. AST stayed around 20. Meant I always got that note saying my lab results were abnormal, though doc said not to worry. Last year I turned 50, and noticed that my normal range is now 0-55. So, though my ALT hasn't changed, I became "normal" by aging a year ;-).
I was diagnosed because my ALT levels were high (88), which suggested that I get tested for hcv. My AST levels have always been within normal range. I don't think the two, ALT and AST, always rise in tandem.

Your ALT's went up, dramatically, so you might have brought this on with some of the herbs and fruit salad "cures" you have been trying. Alot of people have reactions to supplements, and elevations in ALT's are the result. That is why it is sooo highly recommended that you monitor ALT levels when trying anything, as everyone reacts differently.
