I think the success rate for genotype 3 is about 70%. pretty good odds. Has your son had a liver biopsy to determine the stage of his disease?

As robert mentioned he should see a specialist, a hepatologist with experience treating Hep c is best. Having the right doctor who has a lot of experience will greatly improve his chance of success. A doctor that doesn 't handle this often but thinks they know about it can sometimes diminish your chance of success.

Good luck and welcome,
There are a lot of experienced people to help you hear. Keep asking the questions and reading. perhaps your son would like to ask questions also.

Depends on many things. His age, how long he's had the virus, how much liver damage he has.... many things. Best thing to do is get with a specialist for complete evaluation. There's really no way to give much advice based on liver enzyme readings. I don't think there has ever been any correlation of enzyme levels and damage. A lot of people have readings all over the place, and they can and do fluctuate from day to day, week to week.

On the bright side, treatment of genotype 3 has a really good chance for cure with the current drug protocol.

Best of luck
