ANC question

My ANC has dropped from 1.6 to 0.8 in a little under a month. I'm at week 22, and my ANC has been between 1.6 and 1.2 every since it first dropped, around week 6. Does anybody know what would cause it to drop this late in the game? Is it low enough to be concerned about? There is a little "ALERT" next to the 0.8 and they added the note that it was verified by microscopic examination.

Mine went down then back up and I never needed the neup.  Thank God I was already doing enough shots every week as it was just the thought of one more needle was enough to make me scream.

I'm going on shot # 23. I have not intention of stopping till I finish though, no matter what comes along... as long as my doctor lets me anyhow.

,8 (800) is safe, even in my trial where they are very conservative they don't worry until it is under .75 (750)
Some people never continue to go lower, and some bounce back. It is important to monitor this regularly since you never know which way it will turn. Since the idea is to stop neupogen when you are over 1.0 (1000)  you are not very low currently and your risk for infection is very low.

What week are you in now? I am thinking you must be around week 30 or close to it.

It's a long road, but hopefully we will succeed in the end,
Dave

It's good to know that I don't need to take those shots yet. When the doctor's office called and said not to wait a month to get my next labs, but go right now, I got a little nervous. It didn't help much that my memory is shot, so I couldn't remember the numbers I had read on here where others went on the neupogen. Yes, I could have searched it... but lately I am having trouble reading a lot of words. It kind of makes some strange kind of anxiety start building up in my head.

Thanks,
Diane

Hi Diane. I take the neupogen one a week. I get.pretty lousy sides from it also.  Some people seem to.get no bad effect.  I hope you don't need it.

It's the treatment meds, primarily the interferon that effects the white cells.   I tanked early, some in the middle of treatment and others towards the end.  That is the nature of the beast when on antiviral treatment.

I'm assuming the 0.8 means 800?  If so, you're still ok.  When you start dropping below 500 the docs get a little nervous and I'm sure you've seen it posted many times that different docs have different thresholds at which they intervene with Neup.  You don't really need it right now if 800 is the correct number and I'm sure your doctor is watching those numbers.   Once mine started to tank it never did come back up until I was put on Neup.

Everyone is different but Neupogen was some nasty stuff with me.  If you don't have to take that's a very good thing.
