ANYONE COINFECTED

I am getting a hiv test soon. With hepc I am very worried about being coinfected.I dont know why my doctor would not have automatically orderd this test. After being married for 10 years and no risk factors one would think the progression of liver desease would be increased.I realize you can have hiv for more than 10 years with no sighns but to have both is certainly different. As of now I am waiting on biopsy results gen 1a viral load 3mill.normal liver function test and cbc.Can someone please give me thier oppinion.I cant help but be worried.AS for premarried days like a lot of people I had some unprotected hedrosexual one night stands.NO needles drugs ect. Also wondering if maybe my doctor already did do test without telling me as I will ask today.

I'm with you pal. My doctors, some very good ones btw, also didn't order HIV tests in the years  prior to treatment. That said, from what you said and statistically it's unlikely you have it but everyone sweats out the HIV test. I've been tested twice -- my own suggestion -- once around five years ago, and once just recently. Both negative and you might say I was anything but monagamous in my youth. Glad you're finally getting the test. Sure it will be fine.

It's common after finding out you have a blood contracted disease to worry of others.
It wasn't offered to me either, but another one to rule out.  Also now that you know you're hep c, you need to immunize yourself of hep b and hep a.

Hopefully your HIV test will be negative and you are not coinfected.

I would bet money that you're negative for HIV. But, I think it's wise to get tested and every test carries with it a degree of anxiety. I hope that you can keep your anxiety to a minimum but I do understand how you're feeling. Good luck, Mike.

i think it is around 30% of people with hiv also have hcv but not sure the other way around. with your low risk factors, i.e. hetro sex & no iv use i think you will be fine. i worried about this when i was first told about hcv so i ask the doc to run the hiv. man that one week waiting for results was the worse week of my life. THANK GOD it was neg. best of luck to you.

I am and have been co-infected since age 2, due to contaminated blood products to treat my hemophilia disease. Strangely enough, I don't worry about HIV anymore. These days with the current state of the art meds on the market, HIV has become no more common than diabetes, in fact it's now called HIV Disease in the medical world. As long as you take your meds, you have nothing to worry about. I don't drink, smoke, abuse my body or anything, nor have I ever in my life. It's all about your lifestyle, the paths you choose. My HIV is controlled, meaning it's undetected by most sensitive viral load tests, and I have no real symptoms from the infection itself.

My main concern now in my life is liver health. Having both HCV and HIV for close to 25 years, it's kind a given fact that there is some damage done. I am hopeful the new HCV meds will be my cure, being that I am genotype 3.

All I'm trying to say, if you've had HIV for 10+ years, and it's went untreated, you'd definitely be seeing some symptomatic responses in your labs, bodily changes, immune system and all that. I doubt you have HIV, and it's good your doc ordered the simple test to confirm this.

Being co-infected sounds really bad, and for some people it is. It all comes back to your lifestyle, habbits and all that plays the vital role in your long term health.
