Advice from Ophthalmologist

I saw an Ophthalmologist today to have my eyes checked. He said anyone on chemo should avoid wearing contacts for at least a month post-chemo. He also said it is very important to take drops several times a day (3-4 times per day). He recommended 'Systane lubricant eye drops'. This is an over-the-counter eye drop. It's also a daily, disposable container. Each container being used for only one day and what is not used at the end of the day should be thrown out. This is just his recommendation, but he was quite adamant that drops should be used several times per day.

Excellent advice by your ophtamologist. I used Genteal (mild) during treatment, as your eyes can dry out. http://www.us.novartisophthalmics.com/info/products/genteal.jsp
I'm sure the disposable "Systane" are similar, and the one-use only is a good idea to prevent contamination. Just a cautionary note, these eye lubricants (often called 'artificial tears') are quite different from other OTC eye drops such as the Visine Brand. Visine should not be used on a daily basis, while the artificial-tears type products can be. It should be noted that Visine also makes an artificial tears formulation, just to confuse the matter.

You are so right, Jim, opthalmologist said that Visine has the potential to FURTHER dry eyes out as opposed to Systane and the like.
