Alcoholic Hep. C end stage liver disease

by vicki11, Jan 07, 2002 12:00AM
My sister now is in Critical Care. She is on a endotracheal intubation and is hard to tell if she is lethargic or if her encephalopathy is due to being on a sedative drip for 4 days straight. This will be the 4th day she's been off and she still is not responding much. I wonder what is she thinking as she knows we are there and is she in pain? It is such a long story!  About 6 weeks ago, this all started to begin,  she had been hospitalized for a month for yellow jaundice and was told she had hep. C and alchoholic liver. She may have contacted the disease about 15 - 20 years ago. She is 44 now. She has ascites so bad she looks preg. They released her in a month of care in the hospital and 3 hours later she had a seizure which scared my mom and  I totally! We had no idea what was going on.We thought she was choking. The hospital told us nothing as far as what to watch for. We called 911 and she was taken to a local hospial in which 6 hours later they released her with no treatment saying since it was only 1 seizure there was nothing they could do! No sooner as we walked in the door she had another seizure. She did go to sleep, then the next day she slept all day. We knew something was not right. We were getting ready to take her to John Hopkins hospital but never made it as she had 5 more seizures in the car. We did make it to Anne Arundel Hospital Center where she lies now. This is so upsetting to me as I do not know if she will ever survive to even get on a liver transplant list. If I only was rich. How do you rate her prognosis?

Vicki
