Ambien CR

by Lady E, Sep 08, 2006 12:00AM
Well, happy day. I went to my GP today w/my insomnia SX & they prescribed Ambien (I specifically asked for the CR).  Had trouble at the pharmacy tho, they said they had to have a PA (pre approval) before my Ins. would cover it. ($114 for 30)
Long story short, the Pharm. gave me 4 for the weekend.  Then after I got home, the Dr called me to say BCross wouldnt pay for it unless I've already been on reg. Ambien for 120 days.
Oh well.  I'll use the CR's this weekend and then get the other ones filled.
Hope to have happy sleeptime tonight. :)
Thanks to all for your advice on the Ambien products.
:)

you can go to ambiencr.com and receive a weeks worth for free, just print the page voucher and have your doctor sign it take to pharmacy for seven free,  i know i've had so many sleepless nights even before starting treatment and i did get the week free and still have six left, all the sudden my sleep did improve a bit about two weeks ago,  not great but, at least i get some.

The "regular" Ambien worked much better for me than the CR so you may be OK with those.  Worth giving them a try.  Algie

Same with me.  I tried the Ambien CR and didn't like them nearly as much as the 10mg reg Ambien.  Didn't work as well.

Have found that Ambien works better on a slightly empty stomach.

Hope the Ambien allows you to get some rest!

Mrs O, how are you doing?  Haven't seen you around much.  Nice to hear from you!

My doc said Ambien CR didn't work as well, but didn't say why. That is why he gave me the reg Ambien. If I need to he said to take another Ambien when I woke up at 2am after 4 hrs sleep. So I do once in a while. It works well.

Hi everybody.  Well I took an Ambien CR on Friday night.  It didn't seem to work that well.  I did sleep, but my sleep was broken up & also accompanied by a weird dream.  Last night I took 1 regular Ambien..same thing, I woke up several times during the night, and also had some strange sexual dreams (I'm not going to go there tho) LOL
I have also woken up the past 2 mornings with muscle aches in the backs of my thighs and butt muscles.  Almost as if those sexual dreams really happened LOL
I think I'm going to give up the Ambien and just see what happens tonight without using any kind of sleep aid.

I've been taking the same dose of Ambien (10 mg) for 10 years. How do you figure that? I'll have to read that book and maybe increase my dose afterwards so as to conform to the data. Mikw

One of these sleeping aids, I think Lunesta, they say you can sleep walk while taking it! Perhaps your muscle aches were real?!! I think I would check further with your husband. LOL

Ambien Cr works great for me when I take a few chews and then swollow. In other words break it up and drink about a bottle of water.
Works almost instantly. This stuff has saved me.

I used ambien for 1 month & I sleep walked every night.  I have no recollection of doing it except every morning there was evidence all over.  Food & dirty dishes, etc., i evidently was taking extra doses of the ambien. I am a recovering alcoholic/drug user. Only way I knew I did that is because i counted my pills every day.  I am sleeping o.k., just at the wrong time of day.

Warning! Read This Before Taking A Sleeping Aid for Your Insomnia

One of the biggest Ambien dangers is its tendencies to become addictive. Patients who take this sleeping pill for a long period of time should not try to stop taking it on their own. Quitting cold turkey can cause severe problems for the patient including a mental or physical breakdown. Instead, patients should work with their doctor to wean themselves off the drug.

I also take Ambien and it works well for me. The only downside is that my wife said I really snore bad on it and has had to actually sleep in the guest room on occasion. I have on one or two occasions woke up at night on it but it has nto been a problem for me. I know some people say it puts them sleep fine but they wake up 4 hours later and can not get back to sleep.

took it twice a few years ago and hated it.

this is some of the weirdest sh!t to ever hit the market.. bizarre dreams and never felt like I was really asleep.

Also too dangerous,  if your house catches on fire, you are toast.

ive tried cr ...not good ..i like regular ambien.....ive experience some sleep eating though...lol...like i need it ..lol

by sandbash, Aug 10, 2008 12:01AM
I take half of a 10mg ambien and it usually does the trick...if not I take the other half.
The script lasts longer...and why not take 5 mg if it works.

Did not like CR at all....slow to get to sleep and hard to wake up.

My doctor wouldn't even consider me taking any sleeping pill, but did tell me to take this (melatonin) from a health food store, and just increase the dose until it helps. He prescribed the kind SUBLINGUAL that dissolves quicker and I up to 4 mg and it helps

I can understand the sleepless nights.  Please be careful of the sides on this drug.  Ambiem makes people do some crazy things in their sleep and you will not remember the next day.  I can not remember who it was but they woke up with oreo cookies all in her mouth and her bed.  Had a hugh Oreo fest in her sleep and had no idea what happened.  Others drive to friends in the middle of the night in their sleep.  I hope eventually you will get some sleep and with no crazy sides.  Good Luck

They now have a genertic Ambien and instead of paying 112.00 for a month its 3.00 for a month and works just as well or better and faster. Works great for me sleeping like a baby for the first time in 5 months since starting treatment. Effie
