I have to agree with you, tx is very much a mind game. Part of the trouble, though, is it plays unfairly, affecting your CNS in ways you can't control willingly.
Docs here often take the safer path and prescribe the AD's... better a mellow person fogging through tx than a person bouncing off the walls for 6 or 11 months.
I suspect the whole culture of what to medicate varies from country to country. I'm originally from Hungary, and people there would rather die than go to a psychiatrist...

My doctor doesn't believe in anti-depressants i am thinking. I heard tell that many docotrs do prescribe their patients anti-depressants even before they start treatment. Not looking good for me as of this moment,am thinking if the my doctor would of prescribed me anti's prior to my startup date,i may not be feeling like I do right now...which is entirely bummed out.
Venlafaxine is same as Effexor, and from what I read it is only bad on liver patients (with cirrhosis) because of the excretion of the drug from your body is impaired and tends to accumulate in the blood, thus having higher amts circulating than what was prescribed. Get it? If not, I will try to explain further.
If you arent happy with the "nasty side effects" of Effexor, there are many others you can try.
I couldnt find "The Emperor's New Drugs" just a book called
"Emperors of Dreams: Drugs in the Nineteenth Century" Is that what you are referring to?
There are some I have heard that didnt take AD's on treatment, and did finish it okay, although a struggle. And many have gone on them, believe in them, and would bah-humbug the idea of them not having any effect/placebo while on tx.
That's too bad about not getting Procrit in Britain, I surely notice a difference with it, have some energy and I'm not falling over from the anemia! OHC
