Antibiotics with HCV

I am new the forum. I was diagnose with HCV1b a year ago and biopsy showed stage 2 grade 2 scarring and inflammation. I have been having a recurring, stubborn infection that seems to be resisting the usual antibiotic treatment (ie. Septra & Cipro). Does HVC interfere with oral antibiotic absorption or create a susceptibility to infection that might account for this problem. I am uneasy taking so many antibiotics as I have seen web postings suggesting that they might harm the liver. It feels good to connect with a supportive and informed community. Thanks

gaef - I'm not a doctor, but I am a fairly experienced HCV patient. I've never heard the virus prevents antibiotics from working. And during my 24 year co-habitation with HCV, I took antibiotics many times throughout the years in order to deal with various infections I had. The antibiotics always worked and I never had any negative reactions or problems from them associated with my concurrent HCV infection. The only thing I can think of is that HCV can run you and your immune system down, especially if you don't take care of yourself and/or you are elderly. I could see with a run down immune sytem where the antibiotics might not work as effectively as they normally would.

Are you sure you simply don't have an antibiotic resistant "superbug"? Something that perhaps needs another mix of anti-b's and maybe a longer dosing schedule? Or some source of a recurrent infection after you go off the anti-b's? Or perhaps you have a misdiagnosis and your root problem is not really a bacterial infection? Just a thought, hope you get it sorted out.
