Antidepressants - Question about taking more than one.

Hi my friends.  I haven't posted for a very long time, but finally I'm back.  Inteferon + Ribavirin's 6-month treatment only took me down from 1.3 million to 66,000 VL.  I was then put on Infergen + Ribavirin, which worked miracles ... in 4 weeks my VL was at 2400, and my hubby and I were SO thankful, finally something was knocking the VL down and out.

However, I have had a seizure disorder since 1972, and wouldn't you know ... after 5 weeks this aggressive treatment allowed my seizures to break through my seizure medication (Neurontin).  So, nothing more can be done for me until a new drug is approved.  I can't even take part in clinical trials because I already have a seizure disorder.

All along I've taken Paxil, 40 mg once a day.  I added SAM-e to the mix maybe about a year ago.  And then there's the other dozen or so supplements and vitamins I take daily.

My questions are:  (1) Is there a good web site where it talks about interactions between certain drugs?  (2) Do any of you have experience with drug interaction when it comes to antidepressants.

Reason for the question is that since being pulled off my meds in April, I have spiraled into such a depression.  And I'm wondering if Paxil and SAM-e are cancelling each other out or I'm just a lean, mean, depressed machine!  I do know it takes about six months for all the drugs to get out of my system, which won't be until October.  Would that be part of my problem?

I'm sorry to take up one of the questions, but now that I've gotten up the courage to post here again I just had to ask.  God bless each of you.

(I hope you don't mind the nickname I use for you ... as a horse lover, I think of the wild mustang horses.)

I am so sorry to hear about your hubby.  No doubt a part of his old self is in there somewhere, screaming to get out.  Can't imagine how hard this is on both of you.

Your questioning yourself on "to treat -vs- not to treat" is a valid one.  That's something, however, that only your doctor can help you with.  I will pray God grant you wisdom to make a decision ... and that you will rest well with that decision.  Only hindsight is 20/20 remember.  I would say most of us on here have wrestled with that same decision.

Having said that, and knowing all the sides that I had, I personally would not hesitate a second to re-treat.  Life is a gift, every day is a gift.  We all have to die sooner or later; I prefer later, lol.

My husband's support and help throughout the tx made it much easier on me.  You may not have that option, but no matter - God will be with you and will get you through.  That's my personal feeling.

Hmmm, maybe MustangSally would be a cool nickname for you, too!  Nah, I'll leave it with 'stang.  You have a great day, take things one day at a time, and you will come out the other end a much stronger, better person.

About post-tx it's really hard for me to say.  I am dealing with a difficult home situation right now which keeps me pretty upset a lot of the time.  (16-year-old son)

My hair's growing back in, my skin is not so "alligator-like" anymore, my strength is coming back, and my energy level AT TIMES is almost as much as before.  My face took a huge hit from which it only came part way back.  But then,  maybe I look now like what I was supposed to look before.  (I always looked about 15 years younger than my age.)  And my memory ... it isn't right yet.  I hope it improves ... I forget where I put stuff (5 minutes ago), I forget certain words and need help.  (Me to hubby:  "Honey, have you seen the ... uh, the rubbery ended thing you use to scrape out bowls?  Oh yeah, the SPATULA.")

Some folks have other symptoms, nausea, anxiety attacks, and more.   I didn't, so can't comment on those.

You're going to do fine and this place will fill in any blanks you have.  I have saved so many posts from here, must be a 2" high stack by now, and each represents help given freely when asked.  This is the greatest group of folks you'll ever "not" meet.

Thanks for the info on the new seizure drug.  I really appreciate that.

Sorry it took so long to thank you.  It was time to get to dinner for hubby and my two kids.

This is the best site going on the 'net, for sure.  I was here about a year ago for a few months.  Then got too sick to do much of anything except stare at the walls and cry.  Post-tx is a lot better than tx.  Thank God for little miracles.

I couldn't ride my horses (they are my psychiatrists, but no one but another horse person would understand that) for over 8 months.  I'm so thankful that now I am able to ride again.  It's hard, takes all my energy, but I don't care ... the fact I'm on my horse is just a wish come true.
