Antiobiotics and interferon reaction?

I need a tooth extracted and im told i need antibiotics before it can get pulled. Im on interferon alpha-2a and cannot find out on the intarwebz if theres any reactions.

You should call either your doctor or one of the 24/7 hot line mfgr nurses to confirm, but I doubt there’d be any issues with IFN and antibiotics; people on HCV therapy are regularly prescribed antibiotics without problems. You could also discuss this with your local pharmacist as well—

My dentist prescribed antibiotics for the tooth extraction. I told him I am on interferon and he called my GI and checked with him first. I don't think there should be any issues.

Both your dentist and doctor should know all your current medications and any invasive dental procedure you are planning.

People here have used antibiotics during treatment for all kinds of bacterial infections:  throat infections, sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, etc.

After you take finish the antibiotics for your dental procedure, I'd recommend you boost your friendly bacteria by eating yogurt, etc. as the antibiotics will zap your good and bad bacteria and possibly leave you more vulnerable to bacterial infections later on.

Also, some antibiotics make you more photosensitive and so do the tx meds, so be extra careful in the sun.

My hubby once extracted his own tooth with a pliers!

I used strong antibiotics for three weeks during tx, no issue. Talking to.the doc is a good idea though. Good luck. - Dave.
