Any docs out there? Proscar question

I have been taking 1.25 mg proscar for several years. Since the hep C diagnosis and subsequent start of treatment I have come to find out that proscar is suspected to stress the liver and MAY be contraindicated for Hep C esp on peg copeg. Does anyone have any experience here?

Thanks in advance

PS - my doctor did not respond about the liver inflammation possibilities, only drug interactions; which makes me think the message I got from the nurse was not really from the doctor. Sorry to repost but the thread got kind of hijacked back there

you can also call the drug manufacturer or the pharmacist.

practically every drug has a warning about using when you have liver damage. asking your doctor is the only sure way to find out. i'm kinda going through the same thing about taking cholesterol meds when these are suppose to be bad for the liver. my hep doc says to start the niaspan.

There are no doctors on this forum only patients and those contemplating treating or waiting.

I'm sorry but it's a patient to patient forum.

Call your doctor back if you are concerned - I would. My doctor always calls me back himself if I request it. I am not paying them for a nurses opinion you know?

I'd say offhand though if you asked him there isn't a problem right?

Thanks copyman. I am trying to use all resources at my disposal. Like I said earlier I did ask my doctor via one of the RNs and the question got tweaked in the translation because the answer was based on drug interaction, not liver toxicity. I dont want to become a "pest" if you know what I mean. So I appreciate you trying to address the point rather than dissing my question. What is the niasp** that you speak of?

if you are looking for a specific answer about proscar being bad for your liver you wont get it here. there are no docs or phamacisits here to answer that question. so all that others and myself can offer is the kind of "dissing" reply i gave you. i suggest you ask your doc again and dont let him "tap dance" around the answer this time. or perhaps do a google search and find out everything you want about that drug.
if you read my post again you will see that niaspan is a cholesterol drug. best of luck to you and happy holidays
