Any insight to Hep C with Coumadin?

by jeff's hon, Oct 21, 2003 12:00AM
My hubby's about to face treatment, 1 yr is what he's being told. Believe it or not, his dr took 10 mos to advise of the biopsy outcome, recommending treatment. It's enough to make you scream - and cry.  We're scheduled to see someone else soon. Aside from the typical fear, he's got a complication with coumadin therapy too. Wondering if anyone can offer some experience?  I can see that this forum is going to be very helpful to him.  Me, too.  Thanks.

that would be a good question for a very good dr.      treatment drops your platelet counts very often.  platelets cause the blood to clot.   and coumadin thins the blood so it would certainly have to be addressed.

Thanks for your your note, it is appreciated.  I've got to say, you did a better job of simplifying the idea than the last dr.  I'm trying not to be discouraged - frightened - that so far your comment stands alone.  I've almost lost my love twice, once 20 years ago in Aeortic Valve Replacement surgery, and then again last year, both due to complications in Coumadin therapy post-surgery.  I'm hoping against hope that this will reach people who have some first hand experience.  Can it possibly BE that this is so unique?? Thanks again. JH

I imagine that his coumadin is already being monitored very closely since he had hepatic disease.  Warfarin is contraindicated in pts with liver disease, and should be used with caution.  Surprisingly, combo tx is not contraindicated for warfarin pts, but like someone else said, his blood counts will require even closer monitoring.  I wish you and your husband the best of luck and health.

I am a 44 year old male. I've been told I have hep C from chem 20 test and liver function test from a local free clinic. Is there any way I can cheaply confirm this? Also, I have an Aeortic valve replacement and have been taking coumadin for years. I am not about to quit taking it because I know what will happen if I do, but is dry, itchy skin and frequent sunburns (even sunburn like systoms in winter?) possible from this?
