Any known side effects for Procrit?

Any known side effects for Procrit?

Hi all.  My RBC dropped into the 8 range and my Procrit is in the mail.  Have any of you who have taken it had any sx?  I know it will help me have more energy, but anyone experience other things?  Thanks for your honesty.

I had absolutely no problems with epogen whatsoever.  I took 40,000 two times a week and it got my HGB up to 10.5 or so and kept it there. You do not want to get higher than 12 that is where the black box warning comes in. But as for real side effects, I've never ever heard of anyone having any and I've been here for over six years!

I had severe leg bone pain but from what I have seen here that isn't a common side effect of Procrit/Epogen.

Hi Jazzy,

I am on 60,000 units of Procrit per week for anemia, and usually have some nausea a couple days after, but I have had not noticed any bone pain which is pretty common as well. I always have some stinging at the injection site, but a little ice takes care of that, and sometimes I have "flu-like" symptoms but not always. Here is just one website that describes possible sx.

It has brought my Hgb back up to 10.5 from 9.0 so I'm feeling better because of it. Most labs will agree that normal range for Hgb should be somewhere between 12 and 16, so maybe it will help you.

Good luck!!

No I think the bone pain is from neupogen not procrit. I've never seen that one before associated with epogen. Hell's bells once you get back up to 10.5 you'll feel great. On the way UP going up that much can make a difference it's much better than going down. Procrit is a life saver and without it I wouldn't have made it through my 72 weeks. I'd take it even if it had given bone pain because it just helped so much.

Believe me NYGirl - you can get bone pain from Epogen. I never took Neupogen so that sure wasn't the cause. But when I was doing 40,000 units of Epo twice a week I had crippling bone pain. I'm certain the pain was from Epogen. I did say that I didn't think it was a common side effect but it is a possible side effect and it is really very painful.

I'm lucky it did nothing for me except make me stop fainting. That was a blessed thing! I always thought neup caused the bone pain.....never knew Procrit could too.

With an hgb of 8, you should be waiting at the sidewalk for the delivery guy.  If possible, get him to inject you on the spot.  This stuff can take a couple of weeks to create an apparent change.  It will help.

Funny, but true. You need this stuff in you ASAP. I think that when it has time to work you are going to be relieved that you have it.

Don't stand up too fast, and be well - Dave
