Anyone know of a reputable Hepatotogist in Orlando area?

I've never seen a good hepatotologist and I think it's time.  My medical care as far as my Hep C has really gone down the tubes.  My doctor, a general practioner is practically non-existant anymore (a long story) and I can't find a gastro doc who will continue to follow me on my current regimen.  Now, I'm an hour away from Orlando, but I'd be willing to make the drive for a decent doctor who is up to date on recent studies and is willing to try new things for non-responders instead of just giving up on me.  If anybody can help....   I'd really rather not drive all the way over to Tampa or Gainsville, or Miami because that is really not convenient to drive that far on a regular basis.  I'm in East Central Fl. over on the Cocoa Beach side.

Thanks so much.

How ya doin? another floridian here, I have a good gastro. Dr. Kanuri in Brooksville on 50. Excellent service so far. It is about an hour from Orlando. half the ride it would take to tampa. Sorry you have Hepc, I am a geno 1a and tomorrow is shot 3. If that is too far for you to drive(depending if you work)than maybe he can recommend someone for you. 352-597-1206. The staff is awesome and there is a labcorps a block away for the blood work.

I appreciate all your helpful recommendations everybody, but I don't think that you all understand what I need here.  Going on a long drive to a University to see and expert is not going to help me with my current problem of no current doctor here!  Because these experts aren't going to be following me and will expect me to be followed up by my regular doctor, which I do not have.  So, I thank you for your advice and it's good advice, but I just need something different.  This is why I asked about Orlando because it is close enough to drive over for regular appts.  And I need a Hepatotologist.   Driving down to Miami and spending $650 is not in my reach right now after being out of work for the past 3 years.  I'm still waiting on my S.S.D. back pay which is long overdue.  I won my case back in June and I'm still waiting.  Anyhow, if anybody knows of an Orlando doctor, please write to me!  Thank-you.   Susan400

As several people say, Dr. Eugene Schiff in Miami is one of the best.  He only sees you for the initial visit which he spends at least half an hour with you or longer.  Then he turns you over to one of his associates.  Or refers you to a doctor nearer to you.  Call his office and they will fill you in. It is worth a call.  I have a very good doctor in Tampa but if you have to make a drive-go to Miami. I cancelled my appointment with him once I found my new doc.  I was really frustrated and ready to drive and or spend to get some real care and then follow up with a local doctor under his orders.
P.S. He charges around $650 for that visit if your insurance doesn't pick it up-whew!
Hope you get the care you need Susan400.

I live in the PSL area, drive to Gainesville for Dr Abdemaleck., at Shands.  She is very good, and could recommend someone closer.  The big Universitys have the best....in Dr's. technology, cutting edge stuff.

Off subject, just started Procrit, after one week hg was up over 1.5, is that normal?  I am feeling sooooo much better.

I would highly recommend U of M also.
That is where I go (Dr. Schiff)
Unfortunately, he only will see new patients
and then you are off to see another Doctor.
Dr. Jeffers is there also.
Someone on this board did have a link on finding specialists,
maybe they will be along soon.
Good luck to you

Thanks Travelmom, but I'd never be able to make that drive unless I had a ride to and from there on a regular basis, if they decided to follow me.  I have a bad problem with long drives in the car by myself, I always fall asleep at the wheel.  Caffeine doesn't help this problem in me either.  So, I'll have to try to investigate this.

Hi Susan,
Univ. of Miami is excellent...Dr. O'Brien or Dr. Schiff and now I believe Dr. Raj Reddy from the Univ. of Pa. is there as well...they are all excellent, cutting edge hepatologists...worth the drive.

Good Luck
