It is good to know. I'm worried about gaining my weight. Now, I know I'll loose it. Thank you
Yes, it is a lot of fat. Personally, I stayed away from the junk food and sweets and tried to eat healthy food. My experience was that the farther away I got from a balanced diet, the worse I felt. I think you will have to see what you can tolerate. The taste buds go awayon treatment and things I generally liked I did not always like on treatment. Plus, if you have an underlying nausea like many of us did, even the thought of food makes one feel a little sick However, not eating also makes a person nauseated while on treatment. So, even if you feel nauseated, if it is time to eat or you know you should eat something, eat it. It is amazing how eating will make one less nauseated (on treatment). Not sure why that is. I had to eat some oddball stuff to spice up the regular meat and salads and stuff. I would eat beet pickels or regular pickles with my meat and sometimes greek olives or herbed olives. You will just have to see how it goes and figure out what works for you. Everyone is different. You can do it.
im lactose intolerant are the lactose foods ok to eat/drink ??
WOW !! HEART DISEASE & DIABETES WOULD THAT BE AN ISSUE WITH ALL THESE UNHEALTHY FOODS : HOHO'S BACON OREO'S ETC ???
Thanks! I am going to go super grocery shopping when I get paid. This all gives me an idea of what to go for. I hope to look back one day at me gagging all these fats down and laugh. I'm so glad that I only have to do the incivek for 12 weeks...!
My desire for various foods was all over the map on Incivek. Some foods that I love, and initially ate a lot of, I can't stand to even think about now. If you are like me, be prepared to search for different foods during treatment.
Here are some thoughts:
- Pepperoni
- Grilled cheese sandwich
- Pizza
- Whole milk with strawberry Quick -- it's great if you take your Incivek at 2am (like I did) and you don't want to put the effort into making a meal.
If your butt starts burning then that probably means the Incivek is passing through your system and you need to eat more fat (maybe 30 grams) or maybe a larger meal to better absorb the Incivek.
i put butter on everything...and the drugs saturated my system...i could barely walk most of tx.....so butter must work well...good luck...billy
Someone at another site put together the long list below which includes some of the usual suspects and some healthy choices. Hope this helps:
With the newest treatment for Hep C, the 3 cocktail treatment, you have to eat at specific times and specific things. With the treatment you have to take one of the treatments 3 times a day every 7 to 9 hours on time, and need to have about 20 grams of fat 20 to 30 minutes before you take the medication. I know what you might be thinking, 'I don't need to do that much' or 'That's not all that hard'. You would be surprised by the answer though. If you do not eat enough before the pills, they will end up making you extremely sick. Also, a lot of things you would think have a ton of fat in it, infact doesn't have much at all. This will be a working list of snacks and foods you can have before your medicines.
For this list I have, gotten a list from the doctor, gotten a list from a nutritional site, gone through our kitchen, and gone through two common restaurants nutrition facts listed on their sites. Where I have gotten the facts from other sites, I have the site listed.
If you know of other foods that you have that are about 20 grams of fat, feel free to post comments with them. Also if you have any questions feel free to post them.

That's great you were able to lose the weight Pooh! It's a hard thing to do even for people that don't have a bunch of medications involved. I have been taking atleast 10 grams of fat with my afternoon riba too. I take my morning dose of riba and incivek together so that's with 20 grams of fat. So that's 70 grams of fat a day! Blaaaah.
I do prefer the fat in meats over potato chips and cheese because my body needs the extra protein right now to meet my caloric expectation.
i gained a lot of weight on Incivek but I have lost most of it since finishing Incivek, so if you gain a little, keep in mind it will probably come right back off once you are finshed eating so much fat.
Yeah the nausea comes but leaves very quickly. I am trying to balance eating all these fats, staying healthy and in my caloric range. I know gaining weight would not help with depression, so this is very important to me.
It is so strange that these pills remind me of being pregnant so much. Nausea, food adversions, weakness. I had pregnancy induced anemia so this tiredness is so similar to me.
I do feel blessed I can finish my meals with fat so far...I'm sorry it seems a lot of people are too ill to even eat solid foods. :(
If your meal is not enough grams of fat, just eat something with whipping cream on it (like raspberries with whipping cream) as your dessert. Of course, a ham sandwich with butter and Mayo may very well have plenty of fat by itself. Great you have a good appetite. So many of us did not.
Thanks everyone...I'm going to go make a ham sandwich and take my 5pm incivek.
I started gaining weight from all the fat and lost it after stopping Incevek.
Haha yeah I see a goat cheese salad in my future;)
These are good fat choices. I ate a lot of cheese. I went and bought different cheeses to keep from getting bored . Love me some cheese.
Any fats are acceptable, just be sure to take with food.
Yes, hot dogs and hamburger with cheese and fatty ham are great sources of the 20 grams of fat. It just has to be 20 grams of fat regardless of where you get it. It is much better to be eating solids than just liquids. If you use liquids for the fat, try to eat a piece of toast or some other solid food with it. but if you can eat meats, that is great.
