Auto-Immune Hepatitis § Nicotine Gum to Quit Smoking........

I have auto-immune hepatitis...I'm a 48yr. female...I've been a smoker for years, & YES, I know it's BAD for you...I have developed other problems besides the AIH...For one Raynolds Syndrome, & smoking is the worst thing for that disease...I also do suffer from anxiety, depression & panic disorder...To tell you the truth, I'M SCARED TO DEATH OF TRYING TO QUIT "COLD TURKEY"...I have tried in the past & it makes me more anxious...I have already tried the patch, with no results...I was wondering if anyone knew if using the Nicotine Gum would have a bad effects on my liver??? I am not scheduled to see my gastro until March...My family physician says you can give it a try...I really have to quit for good this time...And I really want to quit!!!Sometimes in the past, I wasn't as committed to really wanting to do it, but this time I am...But I'm also under a great deal of stress right now (with my Mother - she's in a Nursing Home with Alzheimers), so naturally I go for a cig. when really stressed...Even dr. said I would really have a hard time to quit, but it can be done...I don't want to go completly bonkers...DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY INFO ON NICOTINE GUM AND YOUR LIVER???Any suggestions would be helpful...Thanks in Advance...

I was wondering how you made out with the nicotine gum and your liver.. I have been chewing the gum since dec 2006 (beats smoking) except my liver enzymes ahve been hanging around 122 alt and 62 ast..negative ana'a....
