Autoimmune Hepatitis

Hello....
I have just been diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis....my liver enzymes were elevated but are now down 1700 and responding well with only 1 week on prednisone...30 mgs a day.
It was very unusual because I did not have any severe symptoms other than jaundice which I know is bad enough but my liver is clear with no damage and the doctor has said something about the thrombin? being normal.....I guess I just want some more advice going on what he has already told me. I had a liver scan(ultrasound) and that was perfectly normal other than the inflammation. All of my blood work came back perfect! They were actually very impressed with all the levels of my blood etc. I have no other side effects to this disease and I am reading on the web and of course starting to scare myself into thinking I will not get better......what are the outlooks for healthy people with this disease.
Thanks very much for your time.....

Yes I do and ...Thanks for pointing out that my post may have been confusing.

As I mentioned..... the simplest terms .'hepa"  (liver) and  '***-is"(inflammation)  in addition to "Autoimmune" I said  " The immune system works in tandem to basically heal the liver from inflammation (from whatever  the cause) and thus can cause scarring  ( leading to possible chirrosis (cirrhosis) if left untreated)
Possibly we are saying the same thing .

The OP :Hopefully the directive to the "liver Disorders " forum along with my possibly confusing way of stating and the above posters clarification,,you have rec'd some helpful info.

Always nice to see you posting Mike...

You said "AIH is a generalized way of stating you have "inflammation of the liver. ..."

AM I understanding you right?

AIH is a distinct condition despite the fact that there can be overlap with other conditions.

"hepatitis" describes a condition/disease characterized by inflammation of the liver.

"Autoimmune Hepatitis" is a condition of liver inflammation caused by the body's immune system attacking the liver cells.

I suspect that you know this but your post was somewhat confusing.

This forum is more for information and support of those with HCV . You may find going to the "Liver Disorder" forum  you get more responses

About AIH ...as you proly already are aware insimplest terms AIH is a generalized way of stating you have "inflammation of the liver.
The immune system works in tandem to basically heal the liver from inflammation (from whatever  the cause) and thus can cause scarring  ( leading to possible chirrosis if left untreated)
..

There are a number of sites I have found to be helpful on AIH,however  in easy to read jargon I always liked this one personally the best.

Good luck...

how else do you diagnose autoimmune hepatitis and other liver disease?  my AST/ALT were 80/250 and I have itchiness, extreme exhaustion and clay colored stools.  I never drank much and hepatitis blood tests were negative

The only piece I can help with is concerning the prothrombin time.

With severe liver disease sometimes the prothrombin time is very prolonged. So, it is good news that yours is normal!
