Best AD's??

Best AD's??

My hubby finally got to the point (10 weeks into a 48 week regimen) where he felt he probably could use antidepressants---he tried Cymbalta and had an immediate and nasty reaction it to it..at 20 mgs he was complaining of terrible lower GI distress, but took the 2nd day's dose--late last night, up comes everything.......he was soooo sick. Felt better this am but says he will not take the Cymbalta again, nor anything else! BUT he is is getting so depressed...I know that when I went on Zoloft many years ago I was stepped up soooo slowly on it--seems like his docs threw a big dose at him and just let er rip, so to speak. Opinions, anyone?? I am of the opinion he should see a pdoc for this and he does not agree (doesn't want anyone to EVER see ever on any record that he ever saw a psychiatrist)---I know AD's are individual to each person. He tolerated Zoloft once before...but he is terrified of having another night like last night.
Thanks in advance--this poor guy is having a miserable time on Interferon...so far all the s/a's but the rash and I just hope and pray he doesn't get that too. BUT his VL is dropping nicely, not fabulously, but he's responding. Sure would like his moods to improve--he'd feel better all around.

They all work differently on different people, kind of like tx.  I started on Celexa just prior to starting treatment as I didn't want to sort out AD's while on treatment.  Celexa was a disaster, dizzy, sick, head ache etc.  They said the sides would go away in 2 weeks and they never did.  I switched to Prozac 20 mgs and that did the trick for about 10 weeks.  I failed the depression test they give me every 2 weeks and they upped the dose to 40.  It's working well so far and I'm coping, taking things a day at a time.  This tx is hard and I think AD's make things easier.

I took lexapro and it took about a week. The first week there were some stomach problems and a sort of 'speediness' but it smoothed out after that.

terrylee - 'I failed the depression test'.

By this do you mean the DST ? ( Dexamethasone Suppression Test )

They give me a 25 question, multiple choice test which rates your mental state.  I don't know what it's called.

thanks--I know what the depression test is--I'd probably fail it myself LOL....hubby feels better already after 2 doses of Cymbalta and is going to stick with it!! Wish the stuff came in pill from and not capsules, we cannot break these in half.....hep docs are not AD knowledgeable, at least ours aren't. Tonight he's going to try & take it with plenty of food on his stomach...last two nights he was empty & thinks that may have contributed. He'll take his Riba at dinner, his immunosuppressant at 8 and then the Cymbalta with something at bedtime....hopefully sleep thu the s/a's. The yawning that he had the 1st day is already gone. He is super sensitive to any med, so maybe that's all this is?
