Best Snack Food With Riba?

Best Snack Food With Riba?

OK, I got in my study, and I start next Wednesday the 22nd. The nurse asked me to bring a snack as the first days meds are taken there onsite (In the future, I will be able to take my IFN/Riba at home, where the bed is handy should I need it). I have to take a short plane flight to get there, total travel time is about 1.5 hours door to door.

What's the best snack to bring, that won't spoil, but will give me the maximum effectiveness from the Riba? Anyone have a personal favorite? How much food is a "snack" - a couple bites?

Thanks!

Robert

Peanut butter - a sandwich, a few tablespoons, whatever you can.  Cheese chunks also.   The key is a high fat food to allow for maximum riba absorption.

Ditto - at home I'd say ice cream but for travel anything with PB would be great. However if you have an allergy to them try to find something with a nice high fat content...yes it sounds crazy but it's true you want the ribavirin to bind to the fat so it's not just elimated after a couple glasses of water.

By the way, drink plenty of water it will help more than you can imagine. They suggest half your body weight a day (which is good practice anyway).

Good luck!

PS we know you know all that stuff by now since you've been around a while but better to include it just in case another new person who might be lurking doesn't!  ;)

Heh, no, I don't know all that stuff. Now that I'm actually starting treatment, I feel like a total noob. A bit nervous too - now it's all real, not just an abstract concept.

I'll make myself a nice PB sandwich. That should have no trouble keeping on a short plane flight. Also, I'll drink 90 oz of water a day, as I weigh180 lbs. I've been trying to do this anyhow, but I often forget.

Here goes nothin...

Thanks gals :-)

I always have almonds in my purse to take with Riba before dinner.  Never had any issues and almonds are a good source of protein and omega 3's.

Good Luck and hope your treatment goes well!

Congrats on getting under way... which trial did you settle on? As tx naive, there's a wealth of good alternatives out there.

I usually pick up a small bag of raw mixed nuts and a banana on the way to the doctor's office to eat with my riba and study drug dosage.

I agree with nygirl that drinking enough water is very important.  When I forget to drink for a few hours I notice my side effects worsening.  I try to drink a 12 oz glass of water every hour or 2 glasses if I miss for a couple of hours and of course 2 glasses when I first get up in the morning.

Good luck.  I hope your study goes well.

Enough fat to help absorb riba and enough food to protect your stomach from the medication. A small bag of nuts or a half avocado works well. I often eat a small cup of cottage cheese, the higher fat small curd stuff.

Kick some viral A$$!
good luck,
Dave
