Betaine

I've heard something about clinical trials with Betaine and SOC. Has anyone got any specifics on this? Is this an improved treatment or a shot in the dark right now?

I don't have time to look it up right now but there were studies done that used Sam-E and TMG ( I think there were certain B vitamins with it to but can't remember without looking it up) used with SOC which showed some impressive results.
When Cocksparrow was still here, he posted about it extensively and he used it his last time on TX and this time he reached SVR.  At least this has good data to go on.  Sam E in the amounts used is rather expensive but I have been buying the Swanson Vitamin brand for a much better price than I could find elsewhere and I did a lot of looking. If you go to their website to find it, just put in SAMe or you only pull up the name brands instead of their generic house brand which is so much cheaper. Nope, I don't work for Swanson, I just have to be a bargain hunter.
I would have Joe on Sam E all the time if I could afford it.  I just buy it every few months and give him 800-1200 a day until it's gone. I think the study used the 1200 if I remember correctly. It does seem to help Joe's mood too.
maybe someone else will look up the study and post it.  Right now, I am being a bad mom and need to go back to my duties. :>)

Sure, there are lots of people who took this supplement back when I started it was kind of on the regimen but I don't remember anybody having any miraculous recovery or anything........could be just me but it's SAM-E.  I think people have dropped it from the normal supplement list so I'd wonder why if it really had merit but about five years ago it was milk thistle, SAM-E, green tea stuff like that.

I don't honestly know if it hurt the efficacy of the meds or whatnot as to why people stopped with it.

I'm sure somebody will have better information that me...
