I am sorry, I don't know what bile hepatitis is. Perhaps you meant primary biliary cirrhosis? If this is what you meant this site seems like a good resource: pbcers.org. I am sorry I can't provide more help. Maybe someone else will answer soon who can help you. Good Luck!!

I saw your post way down there, about Butorphanol Tartrate Nasal Spray. I BET it works GREAT! It is an opiod
narcotic pain reliever aka Stadol. There was an article about a class action law suit in Canada that the drug company should have stated it is highly addictive. DOH! I couldnt find any info on it being bad for us heppers. OHC

What part of narcotic=hep c jet fuel don't you understand? Or to put it even more simply, 'Class A's' are bad. Anything that is addictive and is directly injested is bad for the liver, b/the hep c digs 'A's'!

We read each others post the other day, we're in the same boat. I found out mid Dec I have HCV 20-25yrs. I'm a genotype 1 V/L 2,250,000 and on antidepressants already since the mid 1990s. I'm still waiting for my first visit with a GI Jan 19th and then I hope a biopsy with the ability to start treatment! . I believe you SHOULD START TREATMENT as soon as you can. I know the sides sound scary but...not treating allows the dragons bad virus to keep multiplying and really start to attack the liver and do some great damage! You sound like you're a fighter and strong willed...put that energy towards fighting this now, before you wish you had started sooner!...Just my suggestion, Keep your chin up, Annette

I didnt say it wasnt bad, just that I hadnt found any info, but I didnt look very long or hard either. She was just asking if anyone had heard about that medicine. Anyone who asks for opinions or info on here has the right to take it with a grain of salt, do their own research, and make up their own mind.
What part of "marijuna, its not as harmless as we once thought" dont you understand? you use it to help you with what is ailing you. If Joni is having bad headaches and this med helps, that is her "medical marijuana". She is intelligent enough to know that Stadol is not a natural substance and her liver has to filter it out of her body. If any of the meds we take help us make it thru tx, with the sides and all, then bravo for them & us. Lord knows what we have put our livers thru in the past is/was a lot rougher than what we plan on doing to it now. I have always liked you, I just resent being told "what part of narcotic etc blah blah" dont I understand, like I am some kind of DUMMIE. I can call myself that name, but I get real heated when someone else implies that over a silly comment. Brain fog and fatigue, riba rage sometimes churning, we should be able to post here and not get attacked or criticized for trying to help. Ok, no biggie I am sure. Off to the doctor and peace, love, and laughter to all. OHC

there's no basis for assuming a general connection between controlled or addictive substances and enhancement of viral replication. Two studies published last year showed that alcohol and morphine(and probably other opioids) enhance viral replication. Anything else is pure speculation.

I read the part about morphine and viral replication. Do you know if methadone would be in this catagory?

Ok....commere...lets "talk" girl.
I can see that you are petrified of tx. Thats understandable. You are sorrounded here by a whole buncha folks who are on tx and you see and hear all the worst personal comments and effects that these meds can bring. To someone who is not on the meds this can be quite...uncomfortable.
Believe me when I tell you that what you are seeing here is NOT as bad as you think. mOST folks get through this whole thing just fine. The dropout rates are very low. Your imagination is playing with you and is making this seem far worse than it actually is.
With Pegasys approved now its even easier. The stats do not show that but if you ask anyone here who has done both you will find a unanamous opinion that the Pegasys is easier on the sides. While that is no guarantee, it is a good thing to hang on to.
You are a type 2....one of the easiest to cure. You are Female. You have little damage...yet. You are NOT getting any younger. I see nO reason not to do this. We will help you through it. You only have to do 6 months. If you have early Pcr's you will be able to SEE if it's gonna work or not. If not...you could stop as early as 3 months. So...You MIGHT feel bad for 3 months. Thats a SMALL price to pay for the whole rest of your life girl!
I did 50 weeks of Peg/Intron. Had some BAD sides. But I still worked almost every day and my kids, marriage, job, and life survived it all. And without ANY major damage too!
You CAN do this. We WILL help you. You are NOT alone!
GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know. That study's tests were morphine-based. However, all opioids share common mechanisms, including cell-receptors, and the authors suggest their findings apply to other opioids, such as methadone. Earlier work had shown that methadone, along with other opioids, has a toxic effect on liver cells,

Thanx for your efforts. I believe that answered my question as well as its going to. Therapy not abuse. Appreciate it. Cindy

Thanks for the input and thankfully, the headaches have let up alot. So the spray is put away in the slight chance I need them again. The doc says I shouldn't, but they cost too much to throw away in case I need them again. And I don't think 1 spray a day will do any more damage thany other pain ao AD's we use. look them up in the PDR and you'll see. I don't believe that how much you know or think you know Susan, that this gives you the right to be rude to others who are here to help, not criticize.

The nasel spray had an opiate in it. Cocaine is not an opiate. Alcohol isn't an opiate. Oxycon..is methadone. that's a synthetic opiate. So, opiates and non-opiates damage the liver. What's really damaging is over-procesed, over salted, over sugared food dripping it transfats. You know, burgers and fries, krispy creams, sodas, sports drinks, caffine. Food causes headaches. Sugar causes headaches. Salt causes headaches. Caffine causes headaches. Diet should be examined before demanding a new and expensive and damaging Rx.

I think increasing the sense of well being-endophin increase-is better done thru meditation and exercise and nutrition, not thru every increasing use of addictive, mind and body altering substances.

I had an episode with kidney stones on November 6th (third time in 8 years -- it runs in the family). I had to go to the emergency room and they administered morphine (one time) through an IV. Do you think that may have significantly impacted the the replication of my HCV virus. Gosh, there's always something new to worry about.

I have read the study regarging morphine's effect of viral replication of hep c and it would appear that morphine does enhance viral replication as well as compromise the effect of interferon. This study was in vitro but still suggests that the same result would obtain in the human body. I wouldn't be concerned about a single treatment or even several treatments but I hate to worry about things if I can help it. I think the real danger is in continued use of morphine or any opiate for that matter. And this would be especially destructive while on tx. You can find the study at numerous location by seaching hepatitis c replication morphine. Mike

Thanks, Mike, for putting my mind a ease a bit. I agree with you that one dose of morphine (for legitimate medical purposes) was unlikely to trigger Armageddon in my body. I learn something new nearly every day on this board, in spite of the recent craziness that has dominated many of the threads. Thanks again for your response.

It does take a bit of filtering to get to the information but I find it's worth it. And I don't think this craziness can last too long - at least I hope not. Mike

There are tapes of guided meditation at most major book stores and are also available online through Amazon
