Bilirubin ?

by esleighton, Jan 26, 2007 12:00AM
I was diagnosed with hepatitis in 1981, after routine blood test showed high Bilirubin, ALT, AST.
For 25 years they all ran high..
HCV 1b
Total Bilirubin 1.8-2.6
AST 80-250
ALT 120=500
Viral load last July at 6 million
Week 4.... 205 (nice!)
I am in my 17th week of tx, week 12 "undetectable", and have an issue with high enzymes that peaked at week 13 AST 500 ALT 900, but are coming down now at AST 300 ALT 500. This is very unusual in tx cases to have such extremely high enzymes, and I am now consulting, and have changed my care to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center "Center for Liver Diseases and Transplantation.
They are getting labs more than weekly.
Here is the question:
My latest lab shows normal Bilirubin levels.
Shouldn't I be encouraged?
I have monitored my labs for 25 years and this has never been so.
What experience can you all share with me on this?
I assumed everybody had elevated Bilirubin, but this isn't so?
