Bilirubin

by jankar, Oct 30, 2008 07:48PM
I am starting to track blood test and other results to see how I am going.

I got a bilirubin result: Bilirubin Total - Plasma of 6 on 5 September before I started treatment.  Didn't tell me the reference range.

4 weeks into treatment I got a Bilirubin total result of 16 on 29 October.

The tracker says it must be between 1 - 10.  My results says it can be between 0 - 20.

Call me confused.  I don't really even know the significance of the bilirubin test but it is in the tracker and on my journey of learning I think I will start here.

All I really understand are the ALT test and the viral load test ( I think).

I got a HCV RNA test of 245122 IU/mL but another test result labelled HCV Log Viral Load came back at 5.39.  What do these mean?

Thanks

Jankar

Bilirubin is a pigment.A failing liver cannot clear it, so it builds up and is responsible for jaundice-yellow appearance.
Only becomes an issue when there is significant liver damage.
Yours is normal,
