Biopsy Results/Finally Great news!!

Biopsy Results/Finally Great news!!

HI everyone,
I received a call from my dr. today and to my surprise, I am Stage 1, grade 1.  I am thrilled to say the least.  Just shows that pictures are not always an indicator of your liver condition.  All along the hepatologist thought my liver, again based on pictures was stage 3/4.  My hemangeomas which I knew I had showed up, and he wants me to have another MRI in the next year.  All of my labs look good so other then the HCV relapsing, I am quite pleased!
Finally some good news!
I will see the dr in ^ months. Would it make sense to wait to retreat when new drugs come out this summer?
Thinking I could wait another year,, not sure.  I do feel like I was so worried about having Cirhosis,, wasted alot of energy.  I am also wondering if completing 48 wks, helped my liver improve?
My dr. said I would not see Cirhosis for another 60 years, which would make me 114!!!! Don't think I will get there!!!
I am just so releived.

Congrats on the bx news, thats really good. And yes you should have plenty of time to tx again. Wait for the new drugs, why do the same thing with the same drugs over again?

That's great that you got a biopsy and those results are terrific.  Yes, you have plenty of time to wait.  I'm not so sure I'd go with the 60 years til cirrhosis diagnosis as a given, nobody's really able to say something like that with surety however Stage 1, Grade 1 is superb and gives you time.  You likely don't have to start treatment in another year either.  Just keep an eye on the new meds, keep an eye on how you're doing and pick your time - you get to do that now.

Great news and great way to start off your new year!!  Congrats!

Great news.  My liver is the same stage as yours.  A doc I saw at first at Mayo said it was slow progression and would continue that way.  But others on this site said it could start progressing faster with age.  Enjoy your recovery from a long time of treatment.  You can certainly wait for new drugs.

Great news -  I knew that biopsy would be pivotal in your decision making process.

"I am also wondering if completing 48 wks, helped my liver improve?"

I went back 1 complete stage so I have to think that's what did it for me because I don't take any supplements (which we're told by some reverses fibrosis) and no restricted diet.  Since treatment ended enzymes have been normal and viral load low.  Even without SVR, it seems there have been some POSITIVE long term side effects for me. :)

That IS great news!! And a world of difference from the 3/4 scenario. It certainly opens up the scope of options for treating, that's for sure. Congratulations and best wishes in moving forward, Pam

Good news!! Now you can take your time to decide your next plan of attack. I'm a 1-1 also and plan to wait for the new PI's. Good for you and Happy New Year also.

This is huge news! It should be a huge weight from your shoulders, and give you time to think and make a good, workable plan. Did you ever get results from the confirmatory PCR testing? Did the second test corroborate relapse?

Thank you to everyone for your support!!
Bill, you are so right, pleasantly surprised!  Yes, the 2nd test did corroborate with the 1st.  VL went from 1300 to 45,000 in 10 days.
Thought that was rather fast!

The biopsy result is fantastic news!  All was not wasted time and energy in treatment perhaps after all!  This certainly gives you some breathing room and reprieve... so glad you got some relief!  A year forward, but a stage back... great stuff.  Happy new year! ~eureka

Congratulations, that is a huge relief, isn't it amazing how a thought can make us  completely change our outlook?  thinking you had 3/4 was devastating appropriate response to bad news, and then to find out the truth 1/1 making you feel elated appropriately, however I hope some day to find a way to choose that elated feeling under most circumstances because worry, grief, etc. does not help anything, BUT I for one go there all the time.  anyway, rambling,
CONGRATULATIONS,  wait for the new drugs if you can.

I agree.  My mother, who  is so missed, and passed away in 05 was such a worrier and I have certainly inherited that trait!

Thank you everyone!
I think I will wait for the new drugs.

Congratulations! It is a great burden removed to know that you have time to wait. I would not doubt that finishing the 48 weeks could have improved your condition. I started TX at stage 2 and on biopsy 8 months after finishing TX, I was stage 0!

Hang in there. There are many of us here that are waiting for PI drug approval.
