Biopsy methods?

Hello all.
    I just got appointment for liver biopsy @ the V.A.
  They say i will need someone to pick me up afterwards.Because I will be knocked out a while. I was under the impression it was just a local type procedure. Anyone heard of this kind of biop.?

someone had to pick me up too. Wasnt allowed tol leave hospital otherwise. I wasnt given anything either, just a local to numb the area. They dont want you to drive.after the biopsy.

The procedure your most likely gong to have is known as a percutaneous liver biopsy, and is usually performed as an outpatient surgery. It uses a needle to extract a small sample of tissue from the liver. Doctors will sometimes administer phentenyl/versed IV to ease discomfort and anxiety during the procedure; and while you might *feel* capable of driving afterwards, this could open the doctor/hospital to legal issues were anything unforeseen to occur.

  Thanks for info.   I was concerned.   That makes sense about them being careful of aftereffects of  Meds.
          I feel better now !!    Am glad to get this done so i can decide what to do next. These 2 forums are a great help for info and helping to make the big decision - to treat or not to treat or treat now or later... lots to think about 4 sure.  Will keep you posted on outcome.
