Blood Urea Nitrogen and it's effects on the liver

by slowpoke, Apr 25, 2002 12:00AM
For the past year and a half, I have been seeing physician's quite a bit.  I have been diagnosed with Bartter's syndrome and they are looking into Wilson's disease.  My father died with cirrhosis of the liver two years ago, 2 brothers are having liver problems, and I lost a brother of 3 weeks to toxic liver.  My question is to you, how low should your BUN level get to before the physician becomes concerned.  I had a blood test done 3 days ago and my BUN level is down to 1.  It has been usually running 3-4, mainly 4, which is still low.  I am very concerned about it being down to one.  Does this mean that it is actually working on my liver again.  I have previously had hepatitis A because the test results show Hep.A positive in the past 10 years.  My magnesium and potassium levels are always low, so I  have to take lots of pills and 2 IV rapids a week to maintain low normal.  Could my liver have something to do with the Mag and Potassium levels as well?

        Sincerely

I don't know slowpoke, but I have Bartter's Syndrome and have some kind of liver problem as well. I've never had hepatitis.    I have tested negative for hepatitis.  My BUN typically runs low, but not that low.  You need to ask your Doctor.  Ask your Nephrologist.
