Blood labs, and open post..

I just got my results from labs done last week. Alot of improvement!! My supplementation protocol was definately working.

AST 36
ALT 63
Hemo 15.1
RBC 4.94
Platelets 197

My question is about a test they ran, Smooth Muscle AB w/Refl Titer.
My results came back at <120
The reference range:
<1:20   Negative
1:20 to 1:40   Weakly positive. May be present in acute viral Hepatitis, Lupoid Hepatitis, Infectious Mononucleosis and malignancy.
>1:40  High positive. Highly suggestive of active chronic hepatitis..

Now if my results came back at <1:20, that is negative.. I do not understand the results, as having chronic hepatitis C, I would think it would have come back weakly positive, or high positive..
Can someone please help me understand these results, as I am very confused..

I think you are describing an ANA test to detect antibodies, often done for lupus and other collagen diseases.  I had one at done at the beginning of my tx to determine there were no tumor markers indicative of malignancy (liver).   Elevations of the ANA can occur with viral diseases, collagen vascular disease, autoimmune disease, inflammatory responses, false/positives with ingestion of some drugs, etc.  Perhaps by now you have been able to call your physician and get the results explained and let us know.  Good luck, docsgold

Thanks to all.. Naw, I'm not worried.. Just stumped.. It had me stratching my head, and searching the med books. Thing that got me, is with active chronic hep c, I should have been in one of the other ranges, right?? See, a few years back I was hostpitalized, under went an embolism to stop bleeding in my nose, and sat in ICU for three days.. Dr's tested me for every known disease, to determine what could possibly be causing the excessive bleeding.. All results in, nothing!! Told me I was clean, nothing at all. I told them I had been diagnosed with HCV in 95, and the Dr told me I must have kicked it, as it didn't show up..I mean right now, as of last labs, my VL was only 4000.. But I have stage 2/3 fibrosis, go figure?

Ole Hippie, I'm moving along.. Actually just started tx last friday. Went to the gym today, voted, and going along great!! I feel good, and know that I'm going to kill this damn dragon!! By the way, I am geno 1a, so I'm in for the long run 48 weeks, if not longer.. Well see how it goes.

If I am reading your post correctly your results are normal. My best advice is to relax. They're normal! Really, I don't think this test has much probative or diagnostic value for hepatitis c patients. I've had all kinds of tests and have had them done monthly or more frequently for the past 4 years and I cannot recall that test having ever been ordered. Perhaps it has been but I can't find it in my 3" stack of labs. Good luck. Mike

Fasting glucose should be between 65 to 110 in that range give or take a few. Under 60 you can go into convulsions, shock, coma ect.

Anyone have low glucose on your labs or know much about it? When the doc called with my undetectable status and my thyroid lab results I forgot to ask him about the low glucose. The nurse had mentioned it a couple days before on my previous lab results. LL

You still hold a grudge huh?? No loyalty, but I will listen, and swear not to talk back? Might even call you my interferon yoda again??

It really has me stumped, as I have looked through all my wifes nursing reference books, and the results should have fallen into one of the other categories. If I have chronic hepatitis, why would my numbers not have shown it?
From what I found, I know that they use this test to look for billinary chirrosis, and autoimmune hepatitis..
Come on, I'm on the edge of my chair, you got my attention!!
