Boceprevir Trial 1st shot today

I have Hep C  genotype1A. I just took my 1st shot today of Peg interferon 2B and will take 1200 MG of Ribavirin per day. This trial has a 4 week lead in time and I will not receive any Boceprevir for 4 more weeks. Right now I still feel okay but I am concerned how I will feel in 24 hours. I just wanted to post this for those of you who may consider doing the Boceprevir trial. I will update you to let you know how things go.

Congrats on starting your treatment and hoping it will be easy on you but the reality is the next 11 weeks are going to be a big adjustment for your body given your first reaction to the meds and why wouldn’t it be it is a foreign substance invading and disrupting the rhythm of your system. The side effects of these meds are going to be uniquely to you and your system going forward as everyone has different tolerance levels, what you feel now may get better or get worst but doubt if it will get better so the best thing to do is get a mind set that you’re going to roll with the paunches. I personally did not feel much the first shot but did feel the second one after five days of the riba and from there to about week 12 was a roller coaster ride for life, so strap in, and hold on to what might be one of life’s most memorable journeys with the addition of the trial drug.

Thanks to everyone for your input. It actually helps to know I'm not alone with this nasty virus. I felt pretty bad all day with a flu like feeling. I think I had a fever of about 102. I was shaking real bad like I had hypothermia. My fever finally broke several hours later. I still have a bad headache and feel kinda weak. I'm hoping I got through the worst part already. I am drinking lots of fluids including pedialite. I can't stomach much food right now but I ate a piece of pita bread. Thanks again!

I don't think you have too much to worry about, I'm in the same study and my 1st shot wasn't that bad.  I mean I felt it, that's for sure, but as far as the shots go I don't have that much of a problem with them.  I have more of a time taking that Ribavirin as my appetite has changed drastically and with acid reflux in the mix it just makes it that much harder.  I'm approaching my 4th shot on Friday.  good luck to you

I wouldn't worry so much about extreme fatigue with the first shot.  It's very rare someone reacts that strongly with the first shot.  You will probably have fever, flu like symptoms and aches within 24 hours of first injection.  Some people don't experience any reaction but those are the usual side effects.  That is the norm.
If you work, you may want to mentally prepare yourself.  Tylenol can help with the flu like symptoms. Rest when possible, drink as much water as your body will tolerate.  Don't make yourself bloated by drinking too much water.  You will be extemely uncomfortable.  You'll figure it out as you go along, everyone is different.  Good Luck with treatment and your trial.

Congratulations on doing your first shot. You might not feel anything much after your first shot. I didn't even need a tylenol.

But just be aware of that you might get totally knocked out. I have heard of people getting so knocked out, that they slept for 24 hours without being aware of it. So be sure you have someone around, just in case, so you don't miss your meds.

And remember to drink plenty of water.

Good luck!
