Books on this topic?

Hello, just wondering if anyone has read any books on liver/hep c care. I would love more information on working with my body so I stay ubd. This forum is also a wealth of information but I'm looking for dietary info and other tidbits written out there to help maintain a healthy lifestyle with no relapse in the future.
All I get from the gastroenterologist is-don't drink. Actually that was only when I asked, my office seems to be attentive enough but not forthcoming with any info in this dept. Perhaps I shoulda went with a hepatic type doctors if I wanted that.
I would like to order something not too wacky or extreme but practical information I could reference. My library its very small and limited here. Thanks and good luck

When I first found out I had hep C in 1993 the only resource I could find was the county library and what I found was limited - pretty sorry, really. Now the greatest resource available seems to be online.  I don't know of any specific books you could read but perhaps some other members can give some ideas.

You are half way through?  Are you geno 1 and treating with triple therapy?  If so, which PI are you doing - Incevik or Victrelis?  What was your vl before treating and what have your vl tests shown during treatment?

I sympathize about your treating with a GI.  I go 350 miles away so I can treat with a hepatologist.  I used a GI the first time and just didn't think he stayed up to date.

I like the book... Living with Hep C A Survivor Guide by Dr Gregory Everson.   It has been a long time since I read it but I am sure he has revised it over the years. If you are on this site a lot of members put up web sites you can go to and get good info.    If you are half way through treatment maybe you want have to worry about living with HEP C.  Good luck with treatment

Thanks, I will follow up on line a well as a book.
I do not know offhand my vl but will get copies and post after my appt in feb. I'm on vic but worried about relapsing in the future over some overlooked info. Frijole, I'm impressed with your dedication...at this point into my treatment I think I'll just switch my appts to the assistants and nurseS in the office as they spend more time getting up to speed.  I've had the virus for 12 years but initial tests came back fine before treatment that I felt like I didn't need a specialist. I'll post numbers when I get them. Do you know who to send them to?

There are many theory's on diet .. especially towards low carb as the virus feeds on sugars , if I understand correctly ... Unfortunately nothing proven one way or another .. there are factors for P/R (Peg/Riba) Tx like Insulin Resistance , high BMI, DM that can affect Tx outcome .. seems less likely in PI Tx ...

There are great sites like Clinical Care Options (registration is free) for learning & research .. PubMed , MedLine and a host of websites and forums ..

I did not know the virus fed on sugar but I es aware that most did so I should have made the connection. I will have to check out that link for now my librarian is ordering Hep C for dummies in stock to borrow. it may not be the most cutting edge information but I think it's good that they will be educating people and have something available at our library. I mean how many times does someone say which which one its that? referring to the hepatitis a b or c virus. I will read it and maybe pick up something useful also.
