by katerika, Jul 24, 2007 01:39AM
I was just rereading my liver Biopsy from 3/19/07.
I am confused!
It states Trichrome stain shows portal fibrosos, BRIDING fibrosis septa ( portal to portal and portal to central) pericellular fibrosis and partial nodule formation.
What is the correct word ? Can anyone trll me more?

I don't remember now where I got this from, but it helped me....Are you in the middle of treating? How did they grade your biopsy?  It sounds like your inflammation is rather advanced, causing scarring beyond the portals (bridging).

What is Bridging Fibrosis ?
Fibrosis is scar tissue that forms as a result of persistent inflammation in the liver. If you cut your skin, you form scar tissue which is good. However, if you inflame the liver, you can develop scar tissue or fibrosis which can be bad. If the fibrosis advances, it can start to destroy the liver. Typically fibrosis starts around the portal tract and the mildest form of fibrosis is “periportal”. As the fibrosis extends, it typically extends kind of like spokes from the center of a wheel. The spokes are called fibrous septae. When the fibrous spokes from one wheel meet with the fibrous spokes form another wheel, they form a bridge and we call that bridging fibrosis. This is often called stage 3 by the Knodell classification of grading liver biopsies. If the fibrosis advances beyond this, we call it cirrhosis or stage 4. Cirrhosis is the most advanced form of fibrosis and indicates there is substantial damage to the liver

Duh, that was overkill.  I just read the title of your question.  The word is bridging.  The scar tissue is forming bridges from one portal to another

Biopsy also states stage 3-4/4 grade 2/4. I also have NASH the biopsy states" LIVER PARENCHYMA  with portal lymphotic aggregates, mild lobular inflamation (inflammation) and mild piecmeal necrosis. Moderate ro severe steatosis, ballooning degeneration of hepatocytes and scattered hepatpcytes with glycogenated nuclei are noted
I started tx 9 weeks ago, I made my 2 log drop by week 8. I am still at 45,563 Week 2 -4 I had a hemeglobin drop fron 15.4 - 11.4. Been hoovering around 11 - 11.4
Thanks for the correct wording, I have seen the word bridging floating around and thought , Oh I think this is what people are talking about when I reread my patho report.
